General Assembly reconvenes in plaza with 2000 marchers

After a pre-dawn eviction operation involving hundreds of police from many jurisdictions Occupy Oakland regrouped this afternoon on the steps of the Oakland Main Library at 4 pm.  The occupiers began marching shortly before 5 pm with about 1000 marchers. Occupy Oakland march re-entered the plaza about 5:20 pm.   Occupy Oakland has been raided for a second time. Several people with the Interfaith Tent refused to leave Oscar Grant Plaza in an act of civil disobedience and were arrested in front of their tent. Man Killed at 14th and Broadway

A man was shot and killed outside of Tully’s just before 5pm this evening. Occupy Oakland medics were the first on the scene to try and assist the victim. Others formed a circle around the victim to prevent gawkers and media people from interfering with emergency procedures. Oakland police now have the area marked off with yellow tape. Our condolences and greatest sympathies go out to the man’s family and friends. [October 27, 2011] Over 1,600 Occupy Oakland voters chose by consensus to push for a General Strike, set to happen on Wednesday, November 2.  With 1,484 votes in favor of strike, 46 votes against, 77 votes to abstain, the 96% majority vote carried the measure.
