We, the Alliance of Californians for Community Empowerment’s Riders for Transit Justice (ACCE/RTJ), are calling for nationwide demonstrations on Wednesday, April 4th, 2012, to highlight the amount of money being given to banks to pay extraordinarily high interest rates on swap fees. This is in conjunction with Occupy MBTA/Boston and many other cities. We (the Tactical Action Committee) organized a rally at Bradley Manning Plaza (Embarcadero, SF) and a march to the UN Plaza, with a speak out and altar for Trayvon Martin. Approximately 500-650 people attended from both Oakland and SF. We would like to request that Occupy Oakland cover the expenses for this march. This is a proposal for Occupy Oakland to systematically go door to door to meet every family in Oakland with the emphasis on organizing and recruiting women to become a part of the Occupy movement. We emphasize women because women are the masses of the people and are the most oppressed among the 99%. When we organize the women, we also organize the youth because of women’s relationship to the youth. The women and the youth represent at least 75% of the population. We have been looking forward to sharing information and getting feedback from one another, and believe that the GA is the proper space/time to do this. The Bay Area Coalition for Dignity and Resistance has called for a march and rallies on May Day (May 1, 2012), starting at 3pm at the Fruitvale BART plaza. Many Occupy Oakland people have been attending the meetings as part of the coalition, along with people from Decolonize Oakland, Occupy the Hood, Occupy SF, immigrant community organizations, and others.
