First Friday evening (1/3/14) Oakland Privacy Group (OPG) peeps were out in force doing mock surveillence, distributing anti-Domain Awareness Center (DAC) literature, talking to people about privacy and the DAC, and even making trouble for Jean Quan as she stood by her “Quan For Mayor” booth just a couple of hundred feet away. More than three months have passed since the City of Albany “began operations” to evict some sixty or seventy otherwise homeless people living on the Albany Bulb. Sunday, December 15th, marked two years since Kali was arrested for occupying Oscar Grant Plaza during the vigil, arrested for possessing a blanket. WHY WAS HE ARRESTED? We predict that Jean Quan will not be decrying the “economic violence” to Oakland any time soon, but yesterday the City of Oakland and Kayvan Sabeghi agreed to settle Sabeghi’s civil rights lawsuit for $645,000. Sabeghi nearly died after being beaten by OPD Officer Frank Uu – who has since retired from the force as is likely enjoying a fat pension at taxpayers’ expense.(The $645,000 will be taken from Oakland tax revenue; Uu has not been sued or prosecuted.) Some ten members of the Oakland Privacy Group braved the cold and rain on Friday evening to bring Oakland the story of DAC: The Domain Awareness Center. One of the best non-artist First Friday booths evahhhh held the DAC exhibit – complete with both mock and real surveillance cameras, a beautiful banner, and a movie screen showing Minority Report style scenes from ‘1984’, the surveillance camera livestream, and a privacy poster slide show. Albany Bulb Residents Denounce Internment Trailers.

Welcome to the Albany Internment Camp. Two trailers with fences “protecting” outside bathroom and shower facilities were recently set up on the approach to the Bulb by the City of Albany. They “house” up to thirty of the seventy or so residents of the Albany Bulb the good burghers of Albany have decided to evict. About OccupyOakland.org

This website was created in the fall of 2011. Most of it is now moribund, but the Occupy Oakland Calendar, which lists activist events in the East Bay (and occasionally elsewhere) is still maintained, the Search facility works to find earlier posts and keep OO’s history alive, and articles are occasionally still posted to the front page.

The Occupy Oakland General Assembly met in-person weekly (with a rare skip) since October 10th, 2011 up until the pandemic, at which point we went to bi-weekly Zoom meetings. We do checkins, go over the activist events of the past meeting interval, and have general discussions on politics and revolution.

For many years, until the pandemic, we put on a Feed the People event monthly at Oscar Grant Plaza, where all were welcome to come and partake of a freshly cooked, savory meal, before our GA.
