QUEERS AND FEMINISTS CONDEMN RECENT “HATE CRIME” ARRESTS AND REJECT OPD CHARGES

Oakland, CA – March 5, 2012 – Last week, three of our comrades from Occupy Oakland were charged with robbery and “hate crimes” against someone for allegedly making hateful remarks about her (perceived) sexuality. Our perspective is this: police frequently lie, and we have no reason to believe them now. We have worked with and alongside these three people with solidarity and love for months. These are people we’ve cooked with, cleaned with, cracked jokes with, and danced with, at Occupy Oakland encampment, and at countless events. We will be … Continued

Indefinite detention for U.S. citizens – We need to act now – this threatens us all.

This is of the up most important – Congress is trying to put though a bill that will allow government, and our military, to detain U.S. citizens INDEFINITELY WITHOUT TRAIL.  Please at the least spread this around – sign the petition, call congress and the senate. https://secure.aclu.org/site/Advocacy?cmd=display&page=UserAction&id=3897&s_subsrc=SEM_Google_search-indefinite-detention_Indefinite-detention_indefinite%20detention%20obama_p_9302629342 And if you can get to Occupy Oakland, please make banners & boards speaking out against this, demanding that we remain a democracy.  This new bill, if it goes through and isn’t veto’d, threatens us all, it’s so broad, any one of us … Continued

Positive Thoughts About the Occupy Movements

My positive thoughts about the many OWS type movements are collected in the articles listed below. The hope is that some of these thoughts may help young and active participants to develop better ideas of their own. These articles were also written to refute many of the criticisms of the Occupy Movement (OM), and to push back on the hostility of “the establishment” to OM. At my blog (http://manuelgarciajr.wordpress.com) I show links to videos and articles by others, which go deeper into the financial and economic roots of the crisis … Continued

Decolonize Oakland: Creating a More Radical Movement

Decolonize Oakland: Creating a More Radical Movement       Oakland is the ancestral homeland of the Chochenyo Ohlone, an indigenous community that has no collective territory of their own and no recognized legal status or rights.   As detailed in The Memorandum of Solidarity with Indigenous Peoples, which the General Assembly passed with 97% support on 28 October 2011, the Chochenyo Ohlone have survived a brutal colonial history and ongoing occupation, which makes them strong members, allies, leaders, and guides to the movement of the 99%.  In passing that memorandum … Continued

circle of solidarity

Howdy. First post here. Id like to propose a March to reach out to the greater Oakland community. I propose a full circle of people around 3 mile lake merritt in the heart of the city. It could allow the movement to stretch out so to speak, and demonstrate our connection to the oakland, the broader community, all ows camps, and the world. It could be combined with a day of speakers, music, events, etc., and culminate with a human circle around lake Merritt. Lets show Oakland and the world … Continued
