We are powerful, we feed each other!
Despite the horrendous police abuse and repression on the 28th the kitchen managed to provide a loving space to its community this weekend. From what it appears we fed over a thousand people during the two days, sat 28th and sun 29th. I cant stress enough how important it is to provide these comforts, particularly when we are confronted with such fascist police who attempt to break our spirits by beating and gassing us. We thank the cooks, people who donated food (a big shout out to Arizmendi and Everett … Continued

Occupy Oakland Denounces Police Violence and City Lies

On January 28, thousands of people responded to Occupy Oakland’s call for a mass mobilization to occupy a vacant building and transform it into a new home for the movement. Occupy Oakland’s new home was to be a social center, open to all who wanted to participate and contribute. We planned to work together, as we did at Oscar Grant Plaza, to provide free food, housing, medical care, a space for children, a space for women and queers, and, most importantly, a community. “The entire plan to take over a … Continued

Occupy Research Survey Results Show that Occupy Served The People OAKLAND, CA – As the Oakland City Council prepares to approve more layoffs and make even deeper cuts to already less-than minimal City services, Occupy Research released initial survey results that show the Occupy Movement provided food, healthcare, and other social services to Oakland residents in three months. “Oakland is spending millions to prevent Occupy from providing vital services to Oakland residents when they need it most. These funds should be used to prevent further cuts to schools and social … Continued

Occupy Oakland Will Participate in Global General Strike on May Day – May 1, 2012

Occupy Oakland Calls for Participation in a May 1, 2012 Global General Strike The General Strike is back, retooled for an era of deep budget cuts, extreme anti-immigrant racism, and massive predatory financial speculation. In 2011, the number of unionized workers in the US stood at 11.8%, or approximately 14.8 million people. What these figures leave out are the growing millions of people in this country who are unemployed and underemployed. The numbers leave out the undocumented, and domestic and manual workers drawn largely from immigrant communities. The numbers leave out workers whose workplace is the home and … Continued
