Time to put the weekly FTP march to bed

With all due respect to the men and women of TAC, victory should have been declared after the end of last week’s successful FTP march. A few weeks ago TAC was predicting a thousand or more participants; this week, the march drew 50-100 (Jasper Gregory’s best estimate was 70). Recieved a letter from our Truth today, as he still remains in Oakland county jail. I finally figured out exactly what it is about the Occupy movement that’s proven so inspirational to me. It’s filling a space in my soul that has been empty since, oh, 1981 or ’82–the space formally occupied (appropriately enough) by punk rock. This is offered in the spirit of an Occupy Oakland Committee for Absurd Ideas which I understand is primarily focused on political performance art. The idea though is not just about performance art, but rather about developing further the inter/national conversation of the DeColonize/Occupy moment. We may want to think about proposing a transitional national council for the lands now called the United States in #DO or #OO and then on through Inter-Occupy nationally. Saturday night’s Fuck the Police march went according to script. The Tactical Action Committee proved they could organize a significant action. OPD proved they still have superior firepower and are willing to beat the living crud out of random march participants. TAC is now upping the ante and calling for 1,000 people to march next Saturday. Hyperbole it may be, but OPD is surely making mutual aid plans accordingly. TAC has declared that every Saturday night will be Fuck the Police night in Oakland. Some modest suggestions to Occupy from a long time activist The Democratic Party is a graveyard for independent progressive movements. It’s meant to suck up militancy, divide and obfuscate. How to relate with the upcoming elections? Occupy ought to avoid involvement in campaigns for office. Leave it up to individuals to do what they want on their own, but no money, no energy, no time from Occupy itself. About OccupyOakland.org

This website was created in the fall of 2011. Most of it is now moribund, but the Occupy Oakland Calendar, which lists activist events in the East Bay (and occasionally elsewhere) is still maintained, the Search facility works to find earlier posts and keep OO’s history alive, and articles are occasionally still posted to the front page.

The Occupy Oakland General Assembly met in-person weekly (with a rare skip) since October 10th, 2011 up until the pandemic, at which point we went to bi-weekly Zoom meetings. We do checkins, go over the activist events of the past meeting interval, and have general discussions on politics and revolution.

For many years, until the pandemic, we put on a Feed the People event monthly at Oscar Grant Plaza, where all were welcome to come and partake of a freshly cooked, savory meal, before our GA.
