Known for being the first American woman to fly in space, astronaut and physicist Sally Ride is one of NASA’s most prominent figures. Even though she logged nearly 350 hours in space, little was known about Ride’s personal life — until now. Currently celebrated as the world’s first-known LGBTQ+ astronaut, Ride had a long-term partnership with Billie Jean King’s mentee-turned-science-writer and professor Tam O’Shaughnessy, which they kept private until Ride’s passing in 2012. For this Sundance Award-winning documentary, diretor Cristina Costantini (Mucho Mucho Amor) uses a seamless blend of archival footage and intimate interviews to paint … Continued

We Are CA Teach In: What’s really happening in LA? Virtual Teach in Tuesday, June 24th, 6:30-8:30PM Click here to get the zoom link The Trump administration has launched an unprecedented and unlawful invasion. Armed militarized federal agents are disappearing our neighbors from job sites, schools, and neighborhoods. Families are terrified. But through the fear, something powerful is happening: Angelenos are rising. Together. We’ve seen faith leaders kneeling in prayer in front of federal troops. Teachers, small business owners, and neighbors taking to the streets in peaceful resistance. From South LA to the … Continued

Please email contact@oaklandprivacy.org a few days before the meeting to get up-to-date location information or obtain Zoom meeting access info. Join Oakland Privacy to organize against the surveillance state, police militarization and ICE, and to advocate for privacy, surveillance regulation of both corporations and the state, and government transparency, around the Bay and nationwide. We fight against spy drones, facial recognition, tracking equipment and online tracking, police body camera secrecy, anti-transparency laws, and requirements for “backdoors” to cellphones; we oppose “pre-crime” and “thought-crime,” —  to list just a few invasions … Continued

About OccupyOakland.org

This website was created in the fall of 2011. Most of it is now moribund, but the Occupy Oakland Calendar, which lists activist events in the East Bay (and occasionally elsewhere) is still maintained, the Search facility works to find earlier posts and keep OO’s history alive, and articles are occasionally still posted to the front page.

The Occupy Oakland General Assembly met in-person weekly (with a rare skip) since October 10th, 2011 up until the pandemic, at which point we went to bi-weekly Zoom meetings. We do checkins, go over the activist events of the past meeting interval, and have general discussions on politics and revolution.

For many years, until the pandemic, we put on a Feed the People event monthly at Oscar Grant Plaza, where all were welcome to come and partake of a freshly cooked, savory meal, before our GA.

If you would like to participate while the pandemic is still amidst, send an email to occupyoakland-request@lists.riseup.net. Check the calendar or this text to see if we have resumed in-person meetings.
