Striking A Spark

I have submitted the following as an op-ed article to the New York Times:   STRIKING THE SPARK             Just as Occupy Wall Street and related actions around the nation seemed to be stalling, the Oakland police attacked protesters and critically injured Scott Olsen, a two-tour Iraq veteran.   That has re-ignited the movement, and will, perhaps, be seen as the precipitating event that launches a generation of challenge and confrontation.  It’s happened before, many times, and the one percent never seem to learn.             During the summer of 1934 West … Continued

Boycott the One Percenters

Boycott the one percenters!!! One of the things that I learned from the Civil Rights movement is that boycotting works.  You don’t have to beg the one percenters to do the right thing, or have the government to try to legislate that they do. Even if there are laws, most one percenters have high-priced accountants and lawyers who can get them around the laws.   Just don’t buy what they are selling. Money talks! Disrupting life in Oakland is not going to solve the problem. Oakland is not Wall Street! Oakland, … Continued

A call to gel demands into the top 3 ~ to avoid confusion…

Occupy Oakland appears now at the fore front of US civil dissent ~ to increase popular support among a wider section of society; a prioritization of demands needs be. Picking the top 3 [or maybe 2] demands is maybe a good idea to avoid confusion and alienation of supportive middle America. For example, the US in large part supports the criminal prosecution of Wall Street shitheads and the forced disgorging of their criminal profits, but have no idea of local Oakland gang or Northern California prison issues, nor do they care much. KISS, … Continued
