Sign petition to combat corporate control of government

Sen. Bernie Sanders has proposed a constitutional amendment that would overturn the Supreme Court decision in a case called Citizens United vs. FEC. The Saving American Democracy Amendment states that: Corporations are not persons with constitutional rights equal to real people. Corporations are subject to regulation by the people. Corporations may not make campaign contributions or any election expenditures. Congress and states have the power to regulate campaign finances. 14481


Food support for the Vigil at Oscar Grant Plaza

Hi kitchen community, Just wanted to check in with all the cooks and volunteers. The food aid has been a bit slow since Christmas, if you know you’ve been busy and unable to step back in, pass the torch and encourage someone else to help.  This is a growing community and everyone and anyone can be involved!  Lets spread the word. Today Occupy Oakland Parents and Allies Committee and Occupy (Decolonize )pregnancy and birth caucus stood in solidarity with an International Nurse In protesting the ill treatment of a Mom in Texas who was bullied when she attempted to nurse her baby in a Target Store. 14375


In Memoriam- Mic Check

Sanjiv Handa loved democracy and he loved Oakland. He loved the process of governing and wanted the rest of us to see its beauty and respect the process. He caught procedural errors, provided history and background and generally set an example for all citizens, each voice counts. He reminded each of us that good government requires informed participants, arguments and discussion.
