Marches, Demonstration, Protests or Strike and Picket line?
Marches, Demonstration, Protests or Strike and Picket line? This is an important question for strategic reasons. Consider that Unions do not need to get a permit to either strike or picket. If this was slightly restructured and we termed this a strike, picket lines and collective bargaining then the general public would understand and stand behind this eventually. Unions eventually would stand behind this or risk losing their rights to strike, picket and to collective bargaining. Eventually, the Unions would also honor the picket line. If we said we were all members of the Occupy Movement, … Continued
Middle Ground for all Occupiers, Unions and the General Public
Is there anything such as Middle Ground for all Occupiers, Unions and the General Public? This post is so that we, as fellow occupiers, can find the middle ground we need to move this process forward. Each of us have goals and visions that we want to see come to fruition. Each of us have our life experiences to draw upon and each of us feel slighted when another disregards our vision because it is akin to disregarding our life experiences. To facilitate a constructive dialog we have to find … Continued
Why I have never attended an Occupy Oakland GA
As I’ve mentioned in previous posts, I’ve been a community ally of Occupy Oakland since October 25th. I’ve attended events and marches, spoken in favour of OO at two City Council meetings, donated to OO and the Bail Fund, and–despite my displeasure regarding ‘Diversity of Tactics’–advocated for OO to anyone who’ll listen. But I have never attended an Occupy Oakland GA in person (though I’ve watched a ton via Livestream). Here are ten reasons why, in no particular order. 1. I’ve never been a member of any political organisation. I’m … Continued

Connection, Respect, Community, Transition. Interview with Judith Katz with The Connection Action Project by Willi Paul. excerpt: “… we face profoundly urgent transitions, a salient feature of our movement is a new kind of relationship among human beings characterized by openness and willingness to live and work together in community, and honoring our individual and collective gifts. It is our goal to foster and nourish mutually beneficial relationships.” JK http://planetshifter.com/node/1991 19893
On “law” and state political repression of Occupy/Decolonize in the lands now called the United States …
This essay gets it right. After all, the American people claiming democratic rights is just oh so inconvenient for the 1% and their representatives. Oakland’s municipal legal experiments are part of a national project to destroy American civil liberties. Tactics and strategies for repression, as well as legal innovations, to make the American people “sit down and shut up” are doubtless being shared across jurisdictions nationally. CALL
The triumph of civilisation lacks nothing. Neither political terror nor affective poverty. Nor universal sterility. The desert cannot grow anymore: it is everywhere. But it can still deepen. Faced with the evidence of the catastrophe, there are those who get indignant and those who take note, those who denounce and those who get organised. We are among those who get organised. continue… http://bloom0101.org/ 19745
Keep Calm and Occupy
In 1939, the British government designed the poster on the right. As Wikipedia explains, the poster was “intended to raise the morale of the British public in the event of invasion.” The ‘keep calm’ theme has since taken on a life of its own: from ‘keep calm and Cary Grant’ to ‘now panic and freak out’, the clean lines, simple design, and telephone box red of the original poster has been a source of apparently endless inspiration for artists, tricksters, and political activists. Of course, my favourite variation is ‘keep … Continued
An Open Letter to Us (marking where I’m at post J28)
An open letter of celebration & recrimination to OO, a collective I find myself still distant from but still very much connected to & loving of: Cheers to all of us/any of us that are still working towards inclusive, collective action arising from horizontal decision making. It’s really fucking hard. Cheers to all of us/any of us that are actively weighing our personal involvement & commitment to OO, as a single instance of the ongoing work to experiment, discover, learn & grow these methods & tactics & moments of functioning … Continued
A Globe of Villages: Interview Institute for Local Self-Reliance, Washington, D.C. by Willi Paul
A Globe of Villages: Interview Institute for Local Self-Reliance, Washington, D.C. by Willi Paul http://planetshifter.com/node/1990 excerpt: “We believe in the ARC of community: Authority, Responsibility, Capacity. Without authority, democracy is meaningless. Without responsibility, chaos ensues. Without a productive capacity we are helpless to manage our affairs and determine our economic future. International, national, state and local policies should be evaluated on the basis of how it strengthens all three cornerstones of strong communities.” NS 19475
