Has Lenin's Imperialism Withstood the Test of Time? @ Online
Speaker: Peter Fay Reassessing Lenin’s Theory in the Age of Global Capital Few political works have shaped anti-colonial and revolutionary movements more profoundly than Vladimir Lenin’s Imperialism, the Highest Stage of Capitalism (1916). Written amid the collapse of the Second International and the support of many socialist parties for World War I, it condemned both monopoly capital and the social-democratic movements that accommodated it. More than a century later, the world has changed dramatically. Yet the work’s concepts of monopoly capital, colonial exploitation, labor aristocracies, and the parasitic tendencies of advanced … Continued

No Coal in Oakland Community Meeting @ La Pena
The East Bay is rising up to stop a proposed coal terminal that would blanket our communities in toxic dust. Come learn how you can fight coal at a community meeting hosted by the Keep Coal Out – East Bay coalition, of which No Coal in Oakland is a founding member. We’ll catch you up on our decade-long campaign opposing a proposed coal terminal in West Oakland. We’ll share updates on the campaign, and meet in small groups to brainstorm ways to take action. Email strike.debt.bay.area@gmail.com a few days beforehand for the online invite.  All are welcome! For our June, 2026 meeting we will be reading and discussing the first four chapters of Here Comes the Sun, by Bill McKinnen (Amazon) (Norton).  For our July meeting we will finish the book. About OccupyOakland.org

This website was created in the fall of 2011. Most of it is now moribund, but the Occupy Oakland Calendar, which lists activist events in the East Bay (and occasionally elsewhere) is still maintained, the Search facility works to find earlier posts and keep OO’s history alive, and articles are occasionally still posted to the front page.

The Occupy Oakland General Assembly met in-person weekly (with a rare skip) since October 10th, 2011 up until the pandemic, at which point we went to bi-weekly Zoom meetings. We do checkins, go over the activist events of the past meeting interval, and have general discussions on politics and revolution.

For many years, until the pandemic, we put on a Feed the People event monthly at Oscar Grant Plaza, where all were welcome to come and partake of a freshly cooked, savory meal, before our GA.

If you would like to participate while the pandemic is still amidst, send an email to occupyoakland-request@lists.riseup.net. Check the calendar or this text to see if we have resumed in-person meetings.
