| Dear Contra Costa and Alameda County members and supporters,
According to an article in the October 25th Washington Post, the average ACA premiums are set to rise an average of 30 percent and millions of people will see their health insurance payments double or even triple in 2026. These higher prices – affecting up to 17 million Americans who buy coverage on Healthcare.gov reflect the largest annual premium increases by far in recent years. In July, the Trump administration advanced legislation that slashed Medicaid by $1 trillion over the next decade while leaving intact the massive overpayments flowing to Medicare “Advantage” insurers. It also dismantled core public health programs.
We stand in solidarity with Physicians for a National Health Program, as was written in the latest PNHP newsletter, “Our collective advocacy is clear: While this administration is bent on cutting care for patients, our movement is equally determined to defend it. These actions strengthen the case for moving beyond patchwork reforms toward a universal, single-payer system that ends profiteering from health care once and for all.”
Please join us at our quarterly HCA – Contra Costa County and HCA – Alameda County ZOOM meeting this next Sunday, November 2, to discuss how to best move toward such goals. |
