As is more evident than ever, the two major US corporate parties are totally unable to address the numerous crises of the working class — in most cases, crises of their own making. This is a bedrock belief of the Green Party
Richard Smith has been drafting a platform for a “Party of the 99%”, which is in line with such a viewpoint and has been sharing this document and proposal with a variety of groupings on the left, including at the recent Socialism 2025 conference in Chicago which concluded last weekend. While most of the platform (here: https:// systemchangenotclimatechange. org/draft-platform -for-a-party-of-the-99/ ) generally aligns with the Green Party’s platform, a few points (such as “nationalizing” fossil fuel companies (#22) and certain aspects about immigration (#17)) will likely generate much discussion. Please join us this evening to discuss how we might build a “Party of the 99%”.
Richard Smith is a noted author and activist. He has held positions at the East-West Center in Honolulu and at Rutgers University.
He has also been published in a wide range of journals, including New Left Review, New Politics, Foreign Policy and many others. Richard is noted for his books on eco-socialism and on China’s bureaucratic state. He has been active in several socialist groupings and is a founding member of System Change, Not Climate Change.
