Together with a group of neighborhood organizers and concerned citizens, some folks from the Brooms Collective, Occupy Earth Day, and other committees and working groups of Occupy Oakland are planning to build a community garden from the ground up. We have planning meetings, every Saturday at 12:00 PM, at a lot on 28th and Market Streets. NOTE WE DO NOT HAVE CURRENT CONFIRMATION THIS MEETING IS OCCURRING Every Week FOREVER. –(Web Editor)
Sometimes we even have a BBQ. We will canvass the neighborhood for support, determine the garden’s decision making apparatus, and participate in skill shares. All are welcome to attend. See you there!
The problem here is that the originators of the post are the only ones who really know if its still going on. the web committee just runs the infrastructure. if we set the expiration too strictly a truly ongoing event has to be constantly re-posted that’s a hassle some volunteer will forget to do it and then when a newbie comes along–no listing.
anyway we will figure out a balance.
now if we had a little widget that sent emails to the poster and reminded them of their own event etc etc. lots of tech out there but volunteers have to build and maintain it and this is a low low budget operation…
keep coming back…also if you think there are some other dead events up here please do send a note to
web@occupyoakland.org
Thanks for the info–will note this for the future! I know people are super busy and stuff, but if anyone from the web site committee is reading this (or anyone else with the tech savvy to know how to fix this), I wanted to share my opinion: Having “dead” events crowding the calendar makes the movement look dead! And it’s not! Dead events also can be really alienating for newbies trying to join up–they finally get up the courage to go to a meeting of some kind, and then there’s nobody there… not sure they’re ever coming back. Anyways, I know it’s easy to criticize–and that’s not my intention. I really appreciate all the hard work that everyone has done and continues to do. I just wanted to share some thoughts on how I think the nature of the movement’s web presence can affect the movement itself. Cheers, -Laura.
Events that repeat “forever” are a notable source of calendar errors. Web committee will be looking into this more generally and try to make sure optimistic organizers set a begin and end date for ongoing campaigns and then come back to the calendar to update it if it really “repeats weekly “forever”
it’s a bug not a feature.
Showed up today, but did not see anyone. Is this still going?
