Bang the Pots, Raise a Din

Many folks are looking for some way to register their dismay and disgust on Inauguration Day, Friday, January 20th. Not everyone can participate in a General Strike or in demonstrations. But everyone can gather on their porch or in their streets or in their cars or in public transit and bang their pots and pans or blow their horns for five minutes to show our absolute disgust for Trump, et al.

This event is in keeping with the Central and South American tradition of registering protest against the government by banging pots and pans. (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cacerolazo)

It would be great if we could call forth a weekly ‘Bang the Pots, Raise a Din’ protest – perhaps every Sunday at 6 p.m. But for no…w, let’s create a nationwide action on Friday, January 20th, 2017. This is a neighborhood action. Indeed it’s success will be ensured by people reposting this announcement on social media and by going house to house and alerting their neighbors. (Check back to this site soon for leaflets in Spanish, Mandarin and English that can be dropped on doorsteps.)

6:00 p.m. is a suggested time. The idea is to maximize the number of participants rather than coordinating with the idiocies taking place in Washington DC on January 20th. This event can take place at 6 pm in all of the time zones. Massive participation is more important than synchronicity.
