This is just a friendly reminder that the General Assembly returns to its regular schedule at 2PM this Sunday, January 8th, at the Oscar Grant Plaza Amphitheater (unless actions require us to change locations). The agenda for that GA will be up by Saturday night, and can be found here. My New Year’s resolution consists of providing a permanent space for the Occupy movement to establish a strong footing for the year 2012 and beyond. Therefore, I wish to propose the following: 1. Lease a real estate property to sponsor Occupiers of Oakland in setting up an Occupy Center in a convenient part of the city. 2. Simple Proposal for a Less Divisive GA The current Occupy Oakland GA system is based around a pro/con debate. However, pros and cons are inherently confrontational, creating strife, and are against the entire spirit of “consensus” which should be about working and feeling “together”. As such, this proposal calls for the “pro/con” section of GAs to be replaced with a “constructive suggestions” section. About OccupyOakland.org

This website was created in the fall of 2011. Most of it is now moribund, but the Occupy Oakland Calendar, which lists activist events in the East Bay (and occasionally elsewhere) is still maintained, the Search facility works to find earlier posts and keep OO’s history alive, and articles are occasionally still posted to the front page.

The Occupy Oakland General Assembly met in-person weekly (with a rare skip) since October 10th, 2011 up until the pandemic, at which point we went to bi-weekly Zoom meetings. We do checkins, go over the activist events of the past meeting interval, and have general discussions on politics and revolution.

For many years, until the pandemic, we put on a Feed the People event monthly at Oscar Grant Plaza, where all were welcome to come and partake of a freshly cooked, savory meal, before our GA.
