Occupy Oakland’s Collective Decision-Making Process is the manner in which our General Assembly makes a decision pertaining to a specific proposal. A decision is reached through the mechanics of Occupy Oakland’s Collective Decision Making Process. The following gestures have been agreed on in order to express an opinion, to complete a decision on a proposal and to allow the entire community to co-facilitate our General Assembly: 1. Our General Assembly is a participatory gathering of Oakland community members and beyond. Occupy Oakland’s General Assembly uses a participatory decision-making process appropriately called, “Occupy Oakland’s Collective Decision Making Process.” Our Assembly and the process we have collectively cultivated strives to reach agreement while building a mutually respectful community. Passed on 10/31/11 Occupy Oakland, in solidarity with the Occupy movement and with the local community, has established the principle of claiming for open use the open space that has been kept from us. We are committed to helping this practice continue and grow. Here in Oakland, thousands of buildings owned by city, banks, and corporations stand idle and abandoned. About OccupyOakland.org

This website was created in the fall of 2011. Most of it is now moribund, but the Occupy Oakland Calendar, which lists activist events in the East Bay (and occasionally elsewhere) is still maintained, the Search facility works to find earlier posts and keep OO’s history alive, and articles are occasionally still posted to the front page.

The Occupy Oakland General Assembly met in-person weekly (with a rare skip) since October 10th, 2011 up until the pandemic, at which point we went to bi-weekly Zoom meetings. We do checkins, go over the activist events of the past meeting interval, and have general discussions on politics and revolution.

For many years, until the pandemic, we put on a Feed the People event monthly at Oscar Grant Plaza, where all were welcome to come and partake of a freshly cooked, savory meal, before our GA.
