The Garden is Lookin’ Good!

Categories: Front Page, Open Mic

cmty-garden-3-8-15The Community Garden on the west side of the downtown Berkeley Post Office is looking good! Planted some two months ago and tended with care by volunteers, it’s now sprouting greenery.  This all despite the outside water supply being shut off a couple of weeks ago for reasons unknown – volunteers are now bringing water to the garden on a regular basis.

First They Came for the Homeless, with support from Berkeley Post Office Defenders, has now Occupied the exterior of the Post Office for 128 days, maintaining an information table, book exchange and free box.  This despite cold, rain, windstorms, raids by Postal Police and other trials.

The City of Berkeley’s lawsuit against the sale of the Post Office will be heard on March 19th in Federal Court in San Francisco at 8:00 AM, Courtroom 8 – 19th Floor, Judge William Alsup presiding.  This hearing will consider the Federal Government’s Motion to Dismiss, which asserts that there is currently no reason for the lawsuit to proceed, since the Post Office is not currently listing the Berkeley Post Office for sale.
