Free FOIA/Legal Document Scanning Service for East Bay Activists/Journalists

“East Bay activist organizations and individuals who are aligned with Occupy-associated concerns, beliefs and endeavors (e.g. economic injustice, civil liberties, fighting police terror) now have a new and free resource in the arena of Document Scanning. A member of Occupy Oakland has crowd source funded the acquisition of a brand new Brother ADS-2500W High-Speed Document Scanner!

This person will house and operate the scanner free of charge for Public Records, FOIA Documents and/or Legal Documents delivered by fellow activists, independent/alternative media organizations and investigative journalists  Documents must be delivered and picked up (in North Oakland) based upon negotiated scheduling which will be partially weighted based upon page count. Example turn-around time would be 2-3 days for up to 1000 pages. Small page amounts can possibly be done while waiting in certain situations.

The scanner does scan both sides (duplex) in single pass and outputs an Adobe PDF file. Service also includes OCR (Optical Character Recognition) which creates searchable/copyable embedded text within the PDF files (accuracy of OCR process varies based upon clarity and size of original text – crisp proper sized text will yield 99.8% accuracy.) All final PDF files available for delivery via supplied Thumb Drive, Optical-Disc and/or encrypted .zip DropBox share-link sent via PGPencrypted email. Maximum document size is 8.5″ x 14″.
