Zoom: https://zoom.us/j/95452963262?pwd=Y2V6cHl4RjRlOE0wZTFWcktOaFZpdz09 An unprecedented, sustained, vibrant uprising of the people of Iran has unleashed the people’s spirits, minds, and dreams… • What does it represent? • How broad is the movement and what are its goals? • What kind of regime is ruling in Iran and how did it come to power? • Why are hundreds of peaceful protesters being killed on the streets, thousands arrested, tortured and subject to sham trials and executions? • Who are the thousands of political prisoners in Iran’s prisons? It’s urgent that people around the … Continued

What is the Role for Hydrogen in the Energy Transition? @ Online
To register:  https://zoom.us/meeting/register/tJEof-isqzsvHtIz_YFVwpOvckDgM_0W_J1f This 90 minute workshop will equally emphasize factual evidence on hydrogen from Professor David Cebon, and strategic communications advice from a global communications group’s hydrogen specialist, to help provide the wider climate community with an understanding of hydrogen, topline key messages, and tools to navigate this complex topic. As natural gas has increasingly become a politically divisive topic on the global stage, many of the world’s economies are desperately looking for ways to speed up the energy transition.  Oil and gas companies have reciprocated by latching on to the “hydrogen economy” … Continued

Strike Debt Bay Area Book Group: Cannibal Capitalism @ Online
Email strike.debt.bay.area@gmail.com a few days beforehand for the online invite. For our February meeting we are reading Cannibal Capitalism: How our System is Devouring Democracy, Care, and the Planet and What We Can Do About It (Verso, Amazon) by Nancy Fraser. A trenchant look at contemporary capitalism’s insatiable appetite—and a rallying cry for everyone who wants to stop it from devouring our world. Capital is currently cannibalizing every sphere of life–guzzling wealth from nature and racialized populations, sucking up our ability to care for each other, and gutting the practice … Continued

CA Biomass Plan Threatens Climate and Environmental Justice @ Online
Register here Learn about a plan to destroy California forest land and increase pollution—here and overseas—by producing “biomass,” a false climate solution that does more harm than good. The plan is to produce wood pellets to burn in for energy that’s supposedly “renewable,” because trees absorb carbon dioxide when they grow back—disregarding the fact that the CO2 from burning wood is all released immediately, while it takes many decades for a new tree to absorb that much. We don’t have that time! Golden State Natural Resources is proposing to build two … Continued

About OccupyOakland.org

This website was created in the fall of 2011. Most of it is now moribund, but the Occupy Oakland Calendar, which lists activist events in the East Bay (and occasionally elsewhere) is still maintained, the Search facility works to find earlier posts and keep OO’s history alive, and articles are occasionally still posted to the front page.

The Occupy Oakland General Assembly met in-person weekly (with a rare skip) since October 10th, 2011 up until the pandemic, at which point we went to bi-weekly Zoom meetings. We do checkins, go over the activist events of the past meeting interval, and have general discussions on politics and revolution.

For many years, until the pandemic, we put on a Feed the People event monthly at Oscar Grant Plaza, where all were welcome to come and partake of a freshly cooked, savory meal, before our GA.

If you would like to participate while the pandemic is still amidst, send an email to occupyoakland-request@lists.riseup.net. Check the calendar or this text to see if we have resumed in-person meetings.
