Proposal: Proposal to support the January 20th financial district Occupation in SF

1) In solidarity with Occupy SF, we will support and join in efforts to occupy the financial district in SF on January 20th 2012.

2) A working group will be created to facilitate actions for that day.

3) Affinity groups are encouraged to form and participate independently.

Yes they need our support. Also Reisa I too would like to see an action specifically against “Citizens United”. Conversation about corporation being granted citizenship needs to be talked about loudly and openly.

I would like to talk with someone who submitted this proposal. January 21, 2012 is the 2nd anniversary of Citizens United, the Supreme Court ruling that corporations are persons entitled by the First Amendment to buy elections and run our government. Since the events for both days are related, I would like to talk about including January 21st in your proposal (instead of submitting a separate one which we planned to do right after the holidays) and working together to get the word out about both days. This website was created in the fall of 2011. Most of it is now moribund, but the Occupy Oakland Calendar, which lists activist events in the East Bay (and occasionally elsewhere) is still maintained, the Search facility works to find earlier posts and keep OO’s history alive, and articles are occasionally still posted to the front page.

The Occupy Oakland General Assembly met in-person weekly (with a rare skip) since October 10th, 2011 up until the pandemic, at which point we went to bi-weekly Zoom meetings. We do checkins, go over the activist events of the past meeting interval, and have general discussions on politics and revolution.

For many years, until the pandemic, we put on a Feed the People event monthly at Oscar Grant Plaza, where all were welcome to come and partake of a freshly cooked, savory meal, before our GA.
