I sent this to some Police email address, but I wonder if someone with a real liaison with the police has — or could — deliver the same message — even show some display of cop and occupier hand in hand — the message I sent:
I hear your concern on television about there being no administrative guidance for police in regard to tomorrow’s General Strike. I know that police, like military, find honor in following orders in a desire to keep order and protect the peace. Better that role, than being stuck playing punitive father when an administrative sees “children acting up” where I see wonderful nonviolent young people hoping to make better lives for all of us. And they will be joined by a mass of ordinary, peaceful and idealistic citizens.
This is a kind of special holiday when you don’t have to follow anyone’s orders unless you see some crazy or violent person. You are wonderful members of our society — not strangers and outsiders — If you need orders, know that the people want to let you relax and be with them, and you might let them know that you feel that. There are powers that want to make the police enemies of the people (and some nuts in a crowd will think of the police in that way), but almost all will embrace you as brothers and sisters. As much as possible, think of yourselves in those terms because most of us have had to turn for aid to police in some crisis, and when that happened the police were as kind as an older brother coming to the aid of a younger sibling. Like the “protestors,” you don’t NEED the administrators who are not doing well as leaders. In a democracy, ALL are leaders. May Wednesday be a time of enlightenment and peace for everyone.
