Why Oakland but not Washington Dc?

I had a question for the entire occupy Oakland. I truly support what you’re doing and the cause but why don’t all the occupy movements combine forces and camp out in Washington DC or Sacramento? What power does the city of Oakland contribute to the rest of the nation? I understand you guys are soldiers in the fight against greed and a corrupt system but you’re fighting the war in a location where no real troops are located.  If the enemy is the government I would think Washington DC is … Continued

OO Needs Rebirth

BACKING OFF:  After contributing to OO since Oct. 25 including being tear-gassed and witnessing rubber bullets and flash bombs in the afternoon before the worse attacks at night, I decided this week that I had to withdraw my active involvement.  The posts so far on this section speak more eloquently than I– especially the poetry–to what it is that has led me to this separation. OCCUPY, FOR SOCIAL JUSTICE: I became aware of the concept of “Occupy” back in the summer when I was invited to come to … Continued

The Next Steps…

http://thinkprogress.org/special/2011/11/15/368809/occupy-cleveland-saves-womans-home-from-imminent-foreclosure/ I’ll say it again. This is a key part of the way forward. While for the time being we need encampments, especially for the homeless for whom there is safety in numbers and who need material support like a kitchen and a first-aid tent, we need to stop fetishizing the encampment as the only form of occupation. The goal now, surely, is to mobilize the rest of the working class, not just to keep playing to an increasingly irrelevant MSM. The way to do this is to defend people … Continued

Occupy The Hood/New location thoughts

First, Can we draft a proposal to apologize to Occupy The Hood for interrupting their VERY important meeting under the guise of Occupy Oakland? We should at least make it clear that group of undoubtedly spoiled interrupters does NOT represent all of OO…This was a travesty. OTH is working tirelessly to engage truly marginalized communities in this debate. So, we should consider at least apologizing, but  maybe even drafting a formal letter of solidarity, and a way to include their caucus even more at our GA… Second, Funny no has mentioned OSA is a … Continued

How To Find Facts for your Protest

The key to the movement’s success is for the facts to be presented to the entire society (of America and hopefully the World). First the words “99%” says so much. You all have the knowledge that 1 % of the population are running and own most of everything. But if you are ever questioned by the media it would be for your benefit to know Real Facts. So I suggest that you all watch “INSIDE JOB”. On the plus side I can honestly say it’s a Matt Damon movie. It … Continued
