Have you heard about Occupy Oakland?
For the last week, Oakland residents have reclaimed Frank Ogawa Plaza in front of City Hall as a free space where we can organize to fight against the problems that affect us: economic exploitation, racism, school closures, gang injunctions, police brutality, gentrification. We have set up a kitchen, supply tent, medical tent, free school, library, and kid’s zone – everything is free and is run by us. We hold workshops and teach-ins every day on political topics, and also organizing meetings where we plan actions. In the evenings we hold cultural events such as film screenings and performances by local artists.
Every evening at 7 pm we hold an open General Assembly where we engage in political discussion, announce upcoming actions and events, and vote on proposals. This is a space where anyone can get up and voice their opinions and concerns.

Has oído del planton en Oakland?
Por la última semana, residentes de Oakland han tomado Frank Ogawa Plaza en frente de City Hall. Es un un espacio libre donde podemos organizar para luchar contra los problemas que nos afectan: explotación económico, racismo, violencia policiaca, la gentrificación. Hay una cocina, casas de acampar, una casa de acampar médica, una escuela gratuita, una biblioteca, y una zona para niños – todo es gratis y coordinado por nosotros. Todos los días tenemos clases sobre varias temas políticas, y juntas políticas donde organizamos acciones. En las tardes tenemos eventos culturales como películas y música por artistas de Oakland.
Todas las tardes hay una Asamblea General donde se discute politica, acciones y eventos, y votamos sobre propuestas. Es un espacio donde cualquier persona puede hablar y expresar sus opiniones y ideas.
