Occupy Oakland Focus Group for Young Organizers (18-30 years)

Got thoughts on Occupy? The Applied Research Center (publisher of Colorlines) is conducting focus groups with young organizers (between 18 to 30 years of age) to understand what motivates you to participate in the Occupy movement. The focus group will run an hour and a half, from 3:00 to 4:30pm, this Thursday, 3/8 at The Holdout, 2313 San Pablo and 19th St., Oakland. Oakland, CA – March 5, 2012 – Last week, three of our comrades from Occupy Oakland were charged with robbery and “hate crimes” against someone for allegedly making hateful remarks about her (perceived) sexuality. Our perspective is this: police frequently lie, and we have no reason to believe them now. We have worked with and alongside these three people with solidarity and love for months. This website was created in the fall of 2011. Most of it is now moribund, but the Occupy Oakland Calendar, which lists activist events in the East Bay (and occasionally elsewhere) is still maintained, the Search facility works to find earlier posts and keep OO’s history alive, and articles are occasionally still posted to the front page.

The Occupy Oakland General Assembly met in-person weekly (with a rare skip) since October 10th, 2011 up until the pandemic, at which point we went to bi-weekly Zoom meetings. We do checkins, go over the activist events of the past meeting interval, and have general discussions on politics and revolution.

For many years, until the pandemic, we put on a Feed the People event monthly at Oscar Grant Plaza, where all were welcome to come and partake of a freshly cooked, savory meal, before our GA.
