Announcements

For event and activity announcements.

Preamble…(should be a declaration)

I am from OCCUPY St. Louis, I was given the opportunity to come to oakland to help in the occupy movement, but due to some great people, I did not. I wish I had though. I have thought long and hard about the responsibility of the occupy movement to care for itself. Oakland has been on the forefront of my mind for some time now. I certainly hope to assist in whatever way I can. Because of my convictions, I have written a statement that I have announced at General … Continued

Volunteer to help with website updates

Hi Website Team, I would like to volunteer to help updating the website. In particular, I think we need to do something with the donations page.  We need to post a physical PO box for material goods and a internet location for money donations.  There was discussion about the budget committee.  I want to make sure that we have an active committee working on proposals for these actions.  Can someone update me on the status of these now? But I would be happy to help with other areas too.  Please … Continued

An Open Letter to Those Occupying

October 27, 2011 To Occupy Oakland: I am not the 99%. I wish I was, but I’m not. I grew up 25 miles away from Frank Ogawa Plaza, but can’t begin to understand what those who have occupied it have gone through. I was given the world, but I barely graduated high school. I bullshitted my way through college. I got the job that I have now through connections that I made because I was privileged enough to work for free while my parents simply deposited money into my bank … Continued

Just Thinkin After Tues Nite

Dear Occupy Oakland, I feel yo pain. 1% protected by money While Oakland’s babies fall bullet slain   I understand what’s behind trash cans overturned on 14th street n burning dumpsters, broken glass and many runnin police-defiant feet I mean — after all in some of our Oakland neighborhoods we’ve gotten used to streets filled with trash, broken glass, burning homes, broken bones, n 14 year old sex slaves missin home … I wanna join the movement because the words of it speak what I think, Its just that the … Continued

Safety for Medical Caregivers during a Protest.

As a moment of Introduction, I am a paramedic with 17 years street experience and participated in many protest marches during the Act-Up and AIDS protests in San Francisco in the early 1990’s.  Having one foot in the Public Safety world, and the other in the Protest community may, at times, seem to be a contradiction; however understanding the basics of police tactics and the appropriate role of a medical aid provider in a protest is essential to prevent the injuries and mis-handling of the injured person shown in the now famous … Continued

Resist violence

334 1-40. Insurgents employ deep-seated strategic causes as well as temporary local causes, adding or deleting 335 them as circumstances demand. Leaders often use a bait-and-switch approach to draw in supporters, appealing initially to local grievances to lure followers into a broader movement. Without an attractive cause, 337 an insurgency might not be able to sustain itself. But a carefully chosen cause is a formidable and intangible asset that can provide a fledgling movement a long-term, concrete base of support. The ideal cause attracts the most people while alienating … Continued

Need to get the police unions onboard

The police need to be recruited.  There are probably many of them who support the Tea Party which would be in direct confilct with their self-interest since the TP wants to privatize govt as much as possible and would love for all govt employees to receive the dirt wages & benefits that Wal-Mart employees receive.  Someone needs to contact their union and make a persuasive presentation about what has happened to the middle class and how the TP is just playing into the hands of Korporate Amerika. 1574
