General Assembly Minutes 10.24.11

Approximate head count:  200 Facilitator: [Requests for translation, smoking section, lawyer’s guild #] Tonight, we’re squeezed tighter together so we can be more engaged. Show respect for people speaking. Mess ups happen on stage because only a few facilitators are trying to facilitate. There are no proposals tonight, so no explanation of modified consensus needed. Is there anyone new here tonight? [between 5 and 10 people raise hand, people clap for them] Forum topic: How do we move forward in terms of protecting the camp, increasing numbers and creating a … Continued

Porta Potties

I am happy to organize folks who are not occupying but support the occupation to raise donations to rent porta potties if there is a need for them. Does anyone recall who the company was that the previous porta potties came from? Please email me if you have information or input: thorn@thorncoyle.com 1979

Offering help with mediation/conflict resolution

I have been around the plaza for two weeks leading meditation, yoga and talking to people about my work, Respectful Confrontation. I have offered to teach some skills in respectful communication and i am also willing to do mediation and conflict resolution. I also have plenty ideas about how to convey this message. Let me know if you want my help. Joe Weston 415-531-7839 http://www.respectfulconfrontation.com 1973

Statement from SF Bay IWW`

The following is a statement from the Bay Area Industrial Workers of the World passed several weeks ago: The Bay Area General Membership Branch of the Industrial Workers of the World enthusiastically welcomes the “Occupation” movement to Oakland and elsewhere in the SF Bay area. The economic crisis that is hitting across the country is nothing new to Oakland, especially within its black and Latino communities. We not only have high unemployment, but we also have police repression and outright murder by police, the closing of schools and libraries, and … Continued

Scott Olsen

After seeing the video’s on Scott Olsen I felt compelled to detail what I viewed. Sending this to the police seemed kind of pointless since they are the ones that did it, you on the other hand seem to be a much better choice.  October 25, 2011 at 14th Street and Broadway in Downtown Oakland, California, Scott Olsen was shot and grenaded by the police. Scott was a protester in the Occupy Wall Street movement. Scott was doing what any veteran might think to be the right thing to do, … Continued

GLOBAL GENERAL STRIKE & MASS DAY OF ACTION – NOVEMBER 2

I believe that Oakland’s General Strike & Mass Day of Action on November 2 ought to go global to show solidarity with our Occupy brothers and sisters of Oakland. The Occupy LA is preparing for a Bank Transfer Day on November 5. This ought to go global too. Do not get arrested! If an occupation is forced to move by law inforcement, why not pick another strategic location; the mountain top removal company, Masi (spelling?) closed their union worker plants in one city and openned another in a different location … Continued

The Preamble as adopted by Occupy St. Louis

I have tried to pass this, by my count, eight times. We have endured my constant vigil to ensure this document is passed to all occupied commons. I can answer any questions as to why I call it commons. It is a legal term which I have adopted, and at first I called it territories, which induced a feeling that we were apart from the United States. “As citizens of the world we have a self-evident right to peaceably assemble to bring forth ideas and discussions concerning us all. We … Continued
