InterOccupation Communication Calls
This is interesting. A new idea to tie the Occupys together and provide support. Maybe someone(s) from Occupy Oakland should participate in the conference calls, or even suggest one about some of the topics we are struggling with. http://interoccupy.org/ 5891
Occupy Harvard Storms Harvard Yard Gates
VIDEO: Occupy Harvard Storms Harvard Yard Gates Months after Occupy Wall Street first burst onto the scene, weeks after Scott Olsen was shot in Oakland, and days after Bloomberg revealed that Bank of America, with federal approval, has put the taxpayers on the hook for a possible bailout which, according to financial analyst Avery Goodman, could trigger a chain of events which could result in major devaluation of the dollar, Harvard students last night joined the fray and did so in a big way. The arrival of students at elite … Continued

12-minute video of shutting down the port
Hello — I posted a 12-minute video of shutting down the Port of Oakland here: Raw amateur video heavily edited down to mostly short clips. It attempts to document the sequence of events, the enthusiasm of the crowd, passing messages back through the crowd, and group decision-making. Ends with the drumming / dancing / chanting groove back at 14th and Broadway. Posted it Sunday night 2011-11-06. Ken Cheetham ken.cheetham@comcast.net http://bapd.org/ken.html 5716
The 99% loves Oakland
What: A meeting to form an ongoing autonomous action of love. When: Sunday, 11/13 at 2pm Where: Near the flower shop in OG Plaza. If there is a raid and access to the plaza is blocked, then meet at Lafayette Square at 11th Street and MLK in downtown Oakland. We have a lot to be angry about, but we also need to be a … Continued
#14JA : WORLD POPULAR ASSEMBLY DAY
#14Ja: World day of popular assemblies Since May 15, 2011 a movement unprecedented in form and substance challenges the”representative democracy”. This movement has spread from Spain around the world despite the countless media manipulation and police repression. The probability of a global revolution has rarely been this strong. Democracy is a political system where the “people” have the power. The words “representative democracy” are operations to make us believe that we are a democracy. But we have never lived in democracy; freedom of expression is not enough. In our political system, the masses give all power to a minority, without any control. The … Continued
Expanding Horizons
Having a very small, but organized following here most of our attention is focused on observing the Occupy movement as a whole. Many of the smaller protests are facing stiffening resistance from municipal governments and citizens who want their public spaces back. Many within the movement are beginning to question whether what they are doing will really change anything. Some people are losing hope. We realize that Occupy Oakland is dealing with many issues of its own, but after careful consideration we here have come to the conclusion that – … Continued
Writing proposals and presenting proposals at the GA
As a regular GA participant, I am seeing that some people are struggling with writing and presenting clear proposals. Here are the problems that I see: Too wordy: persuasive and explanatory sections go on and on; too much soapboxing. No bottom line: lots of opinion-based commentary, but no final word on what it is you want people to do or to achieve Lack of knowledge of the subject matter: sometimes only one presenter is aware of the issues; sometimes there are conflicting ideas about the issues amongst presenters; sometimes the … Continued
