Were you in the area of 12th and Oak Streets on January 28, 2012? If so, please read this: Mario Casillas was demonstrating on Move-In Day when he was beaten by the police and arrested. He is now facing two felony counts of assault with a deadly weapon – his bicycle – on a police officer. The police claim that their portable video recorders “malfunctioned” during the arrest. Truth is still in jail, so this release party has been postponed until he is free. On November 3rd, 2011, Truth was beaten by police and charged with multiple felonies on his way back to his tent after the General Strike. An occupier from day one, Truth had a probation hold from 2008 that allowed the police to keep him in jail for five months despite the dropping of his November 3rd charges. The preliminary hearing is over, the five-person defense team has eviscerated the testimony of the complaining witness and the judge hasn’t noticed. This website was created in the fall of 2011. Most of it is now moribund, but the Occupy Oakland Calendar, which lists activist events in the East Bay (and occasionally elsewhere) is still maintained, the Search facility works to find earlier posts and keep OO’s history alive, and articles are occasionally still posted to the front page.

The Occupy Oakland General Assembly met in-person weekly (with a rare skip) since October 10th, 2011 up until the pandemic, at which point we went to bi-weekly Zoom meetings. We do checkins, go over the activist events of the past meeting interval, and have general discussions on politics and revolution.

For many years, until the pandemic, we put on a Feed the People event monthly at Oscar Grant Plaza, where all were welcome to come and partake of a freshly cooked, savory meal, before our GA.
