Taking to heart the ongoing requests from Water Protectors for us to pray together, we plan to hold vigil as they face these threats. Dec 4 @ 2:00 pm – 3:30 pm
Now is the time to get organized. Join Socialist Alternative in Berkeley for a public meeting discussing how we can build the resistance against Trump. Trump’s white nationalist rhetoric has already led to a rise in attacks on Muslims, immigrants, women and LGBTQ people. We need to fight against discrimination in all its forms and defend each other. This has begun with mass protests in the streets. But Trump is also dangerous because he is a billionaire looking to deregulate financial institutions and line the pockets of rich shareholders. The next Post Salon will discuss two important question: What would a Public Bank mean for Oakland, and how should Oakland go about picking a new schools’ superintendent? A Public Bank operates in the public interest, rather than operating to generate short-term profits for shareholders. North Dakota has a public bank. Santa Fe, Santa Rosa, and other communities are looking at creating them. Speakers will look at: What is a Public bank? Why does it matter? Can we get one in Oakland? Second, the city’s superintendent is leaving in February, … Continued

Dec 7 @ 9:45 am – 12:45 pm
One Last Push in 2016 for Refinery Emissions Cap @ Bay Area Air Quality Management Offices | San Francisco | California | United States
Emission caps on pollution from oil refineries—greenhouse gases, toxic gases (NOx and SOx), and dangerous particulate matter are crucial not only for protecting our health and safety and the planet, but for preventing the Bay Area from becoming a major outlet for tar sands crude oil.  Refining tar sands crude produces much higher levels of both health-harming air pollution and greenhouse gases.  With a cap on refinery emissions in place, a tsunami of tar sands into Bay Area refineries could be effectively prevented. The Refinery Emissions Cap (Rule 12-16) is so … Continued
