March for Nuclear Abolition & Global Survival @ Livermore Lab
Aug 9 @ 7:45 am – 12:00 pm

Rally, march & direct action to commemorate the atomic bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki at the place where new US nuclear weapons are still being developed today.

8 am rally with speakers: Daniel Ellsberg (legendary activist and leaker of the Pentagon Papers), Marylia Kelley (executive director of Tri-Valley Cares), and a Hibakusha (Japanese atomic bomb survivor). With wonderful music by Emma’s Revolution. Together, solemnly we will commemorate the nightmarish effects of nuclear weapons–from uranium mining to testing use–on the people of Japan, the Marshall Island, and the First Nations–and all the people living near nuclear facilities across the country and around the world. We will recommit ourselves to efforts to abolish these indiscriminate weapons of mass destruction Please bring a large photograph of a loved one. As always, we act in the spirit of nonviolence.

At 9:00 am we will march to the gates of Livermore Lab, where we will join in an Obon dance, (Japanese folk dance). Following the dance those who choose will peaceably risk arrest.

For those who wish, camping the night before is available at Lake Del Valle. Contact scott [at] trivalleycares.org to RSVP.

All ages welcome!

Immigration Vigil at the West County Detention Center @ West County Detention Center
Aug 13 @ 11:00 am – 12:00 pm

Come stand up for immigrants, refugees and the marginalized folks ensnared by the criminal injustice system who are inside the Bay Area’s regional ICE detention center / Contra Costa’s county’s jail—and show your support for their visiting loved ones too. It’s our responsibility to fight the right wing’s racist, xenophobic, anti-Muslim, ableist, transphobic, homophobic, misogynist ramp up of authoritarian policing, detention and deportation practices—if not now, when?

FEATURING:
Rabbi Dev Nolly and members of Kehilla Community Synagogue
Bend the Arc Bay Area Resistance (Co-organizer)
Occupella
and more TBA…

Let Our People Go is a youth-and-elder-friendly action that opposes the detentions/deportations and mass incarceration with activist debriefs, music, art, stories and representation from different faith communities (including faithful and faithless humanists). Accessible site, easy parking, bathrooms available closeby in the visitors waiting room.

LET OUR PEOPLE GO was initiated by members of the Kehilla Immigration Committee on the 2nd Sunday of every month, modeled on the 1st Saturday vigils held by our partners at Interfaith Movement for Human Integrity. Many of us, especially caregivers, can’t get to evening meetings or attend long weekend events and marches, but we want to show up and we want to get youth involved in this struggle. This one-hour protest is a way for more families with tweens/teens—especially those with citizenship privileges—to stand up for our peoples and bring more attention to this immoral site of internment right in our community.

Send us your ideas via letourpeoplego@kehillasynagogue.org.

Protest Sheriff’s racist tweet scandal! Show up for immigrants! @ Alameda County Sheriff's Office
Aug 16 @ 5:00 pm – 7:00 pm

Are you outraged that the Alameda County Sheriff’s Dept. is retweeting white supremacists?

Are you angry that Sheriff Ahern and other sheriffs want to keep deporting our loved ones? (The CA State Sheriffs Association is trying to bully Gov Brown into further weakening SB 54, the “Sanctuary” bill that would push back on Trump’s deportation machine!)

Then join us tomorrow to say NO to white supremacy and racism!

You probably already heard that on Sunday night, the Alameda County Sheriff’s official twitter account retweeted infamous white supremacist Richard Spencer.

The department’s claiming this is an “accident,” but in fact it’s part of a long pattern of racist attitudes and practices at the department.

This same deputy, Sargeant Kelly, made headlines defending the arrest of a fruit vendor a few months ago, saying: “If you don’t enforce this type of selling, it will begin to look like a Third World fruit market.”

And Sheriff Ahern himself signed a letter endorsing white nationalist Jeff Sessions’ nomination as Attorney General. And he’s also said he can identify undocumented immigrants based on “language, luggage, and clothing.”

We cannot remain silent.

Handmaids’ Resistance San Francisco @ Hall of (In)Justice
Aug 24 @ 9:00 am – 4:00 pm

oin us outside the San Francisco Hall of Justice as we protest anti-abortion advocates David Daleiden and Sandra Merritt.

In 2015, David and Sandra released edited footage claiming that Planned Parenthood was selling fetal tissue for profit. These claims were later proven to be completely false. The videos were nothing more than an attempt to slander Planned Parenthood, incite violence against abortion providers, and make abortion inaccessible. David and Sandra are currently being charged with 15 felony counts.

Let’s show them that the State of California will not tolerate anti-choice propaganda and that we stand with Planned Parenthood. Under the Trump regime we cannot afford to be silent when it comes to women’s rights.

Feel free to make your own sign and bring a friend. Handmaid costumes can be provided but please make sure to RSVP so that we know how many to provide.

Join Longshore Workers to Shut Down the Fascists
Aug 26 @ 10:00 am
SATURDAY, AUGUST 26, 10 AM
Assemble on Scott St. in Marina Green
Racists Want Charlottesville Terror Here – It’s Up to Us to Stop It!
.
LONGSHORE WORKERS:
SHUT DOWN THE FASCISTS!
We, longshore workers, support the call to action for our union to take the lead for the working class, to stop a deadly threat to the rights and the lives of us all.
This weekend, fascist groups plan to stage rallies that threaten to repeat the racist terror of Charlottesville in the Bay Area. We’ve shut down the port against racism, war and police repression. Longshore workers have got the power, and we will not allow labor-hating white supremacists to bring their lynch mob terror here.
On Saturday, August 26 at 10AM, we will assemble on Scott St. in Marina Green (between Fort Mason and Crissy Field) and march to stop the fascist provocation at Crissy Field. We’re calling on all ILWU members, other unions and supporters to be there. Stop these racist killers from killing again. If not now, when? If not here, where? We have the power. Let’s use it!
On August 26, the fascist group that calls itself “Patriot Prayer” plans to hold a rally on Crissy Field. On August 27, several fascist groups plan a rally in Berkeley. What this means was shown in Portland on May 26: a Nazi who attended a “Patriot Prayer” rally the previous month killed two men for standing up against his racist threats to two young women. On June 4, members of 14 unions in Portland mobilized in the struggle to stop the fascists drawn by “Patriot Prayer.”
Charlottesville, Virginia on August 12 showed again that the fascists are not about “free speech.” The rally by Nazis, KKK and other white supremacists led directly to the murder of Heather Heyer and injuries to dozens of courageous anti-racist counter-protesters. Some of the same Nazis plan to come to the Bay Area this weekend. Meanwhile, Trump obscenely praises “good” fascists and “beautiful” statues of bloody Confederate slave masters.
And now the fascists want to bring their race-terror here? We say: Hell no! Who do these fascist creeps think they’re messing with? SF is a union town. Let’s bring out the whole Bay Area labor movement, with defenders of African American, Asian, Latino, gay, lesbian, women’s and immigrant rights, to stop the fascists
To do this, we must rely on our own power as workers – not phony “friend of labor” politicians of both bosses’ parties. Their pleas for Trump’s Department of the Interior to deny a permit for Crissy Field are a diversion. Any bans, especially in a port city, could be used against workers fighting for their rights. But as the Portland Painters said in a solidarity message, when we use our “power as workers to take action against the fascists on August 26th, that will be a call to action of workers and oppressed people throughout this country.”
Now’s the time to stand up for all that ILWU has fought for, as opponents of racism and oppression. We can’t let these racists and fascists keep on killing. Enough is enough. Let’s join together in unity and in strength to put our union resolution into action. On August 26,
DON’T WORK! SHUT THE PORT DOWN AND THE FASCISTS TOO!

Longshore Workers to Stop the Fascists

******************
Update: At the planning meeting on Aug. 22, union sisters and brothers highlighted the threat to African American and all union members posed by the hanging nooses and vile racist slurs that have repeatedly appeared at SSA terminal. Make no mistake: this racist filth is a threat of lynching. It’s exactly the kind of thing the Klan, Nazis and other fascist/racist terror groups use. We have to stop it with the power of our union. This is and must be closely connected to the mobilization this Saturday, Aug. 26 to stop the fascists.

EVICTION RESISTANCE PARTY @ HERE/THERE on the Berkeley/Oakland border, across from Sweet Adeline bakery
Oct 24 @ 4:30 pm – Oct 25 @ 11:45 pm

You’re invited to an

EVICTION RESISTANCE PARTY

The evening of Tuesday, Oct. 24

through Wednesday morning,

as long as necessary.

The camping community HERE/THERE has been practicing consensus government and responsible urban camping at its present location for more than nine months. Multiple members of City Council have called us “a model community”. So why has “someone” in the city government told BART to get rid of us?

We were only given three days notice: they will seize our property and force us onto the street some time on Tuesday. This eviction order is illegal. Help us resist it by coming out to shout at the pigs and enjoying a potluck Eviction Resistance Party. Tuesday evening through Wednesday morning, as long as necessary. Also, you can contact Lateefah Simon, the BART board director for our district, through https://www.lateefahforbart.com/contact and Rebecca Saltzman, chair of the BART Board of Directors whose district represents many people in Berkeley and Oakland:

Bring a camera. This is also a good time to donate food, water, and any kind of survival equipment.

If they do manage to evict us, we’re going straight to City Hall, where we’re going to raise a hell of a ruckus. In that event, we will need help with transport and temporary storage of property. So maybe bring a pickup or a van, just in case?

Stroller Brigade: Save The Birth Place of the East Bay @ Alta Bates Hospital
Nov 5 @ 11:30 am – 1:00 pm

Did you have a baby at Alta Bates?
Know someone born at Alta Bates?
Join Nurses to Help Stop the Alta Bates Closure!

Sutter Health wants to close Alta Bates Medical Center — Berkeley’s only acute-care hospital — a mother and
infant-care center of excellence for more than a century! Sutter is crippling nurses’ ability to care for the community right now with unsafe short staffing! Closing Alta Bates will leave Berkeley and other cities along the Interstate 80 corridor, through the Caldecott Tunnel, without access to a full-service, acutecare hospital, putting lives at risk.

Berkeley and East Bay Communities Need Alta Bates!

Bring friends, families, and neighbors — and all available STROLLERS (no baby required) — for our march to save Alta Bates hospital!

The East Bay Must Rise Up to Save Alta Bates in Berkeley!

Rally in SF to Save Temporary Protected Status for Immigrants @ SF City Hall Plaza
Nov 7 @ 12:00 pm – 1:00 pm

Rally to Save Temporary Protected Status for Immigrants

The Trump administration is threatening to remove TPS from Salvadorans, Hondurans, Nicaraguans, Syrians, and Haitians and send them back to situations of life-threatening violence. Many came to the United States because of wars and natural disasters and have been here for years, and for some, even decades. Removing Temporary Protected Status will put hundreds of thousands of people at risk of deportation. Sending them back to countries where there are ongoing conflicts or economic instability is a human rights disaster.

UC Berkeley – National Walkout / Rally to Save Higher Ed @ Sproul Plaza, UC Berkeley
Nov 29 @ 12:00 pm – 2:00 pm

On Nov 29th, we join together with graduate students nationwide to oppose the GOP tax plan. The tax plan targets higher education by taxing tuition waivers as income, drastically increasing the amount we pay in taxes and locking out continuing and future grads who can’t afford the cost.

At 12pm on Wednesday 11/29, join together with grads, undergrads, faculty, staff, and community members at Sproul Steps. Bring a sign, bring a friend, and come ready to make some noise!

Starting at 10 am gather at Anthony Hall to make signs, have breakfast, and perform outreach about the bill. Walkout at 12 pm to gather at Sproul Plaza for a rally and speak out against the bill.

This action is co-sponsored by: The UC Student-Workers Union (UAW 2865), The UC Postdoctoral Researchers Union (UAW 5810), the Graduate Assembly (GA), International Socialist Organization (ISO), UC AFT, Electrical Engineering Graduate Student Association (EEGSA), BERC Action, and the Berkeley Faculty Association (BFA).
