Federal Control of OPD: Forging a Community Response @ Humanist Hall
Oct 12 @ 2:00 am – 4:30 am

On December 11th, civil rights attorney Jim Chanin will file a motion to put OPD under Federal receivership.

How would Federal control affect the people of Oakland?
Will a federally controlled police force be more interested in crime suppression or political repression?

How much will the people pay?

Presentation and Speakout with update on court case by Jim Chanin.

Court Solidarity for Comrades Arrested in SF @ SF Courthouse
Oct 12 @ 8:30 pm – 10:30 pm

A number of comrades are having their arraignments at 1:30 PM in San Francisco. They were attacked and beaten by police on Saturday, charged with felony conspiracy and other charges, and had astronomical bails set.

Come out and support them!

(If you were at the protest peeps in the know suggest that you NOT go to the courthouse in support)

My understanding is that one comrade from Seattle, Cami (?), is having her arraignment at 9:00 AM at the same location tomorrow. According to the latest information, Cami is being arraigned at 1:30 PM as well.

Justice 4 Alan Blueford Coalition @ SEIU 1021 Offices, East Oakland
Oct 13 @ 6:00 pm – 8:00 pm

NOTE THAT THIS IS NOT OUR NORMAL MEETING PLACE. WHILE IT IS AN SEIU HALL, IT IS A DIFFERENT SEIU HALL (on Oak St, not Myrtle St).

We are now meeting weekly. After our BBQ, our speakout, and our events at City Hall which drew much attention to Alan’s cause in the media and hence the general public, and the DA’s pronoucement that Masso was justified in gunning Alan down, we will be planning further steps in our search for Justice 4 Alan Blueford. Come help us out!

A couple of the things we are planning are to put further pressure on the District Attorney to charge Officer Masso with murder, and we are in the early stages of organizing a large march in November with an emphasis on opposition to Stop & Frisk, the policy which led directly to Alan’s death, and the repeal of the Police Officers’ Bill of Rights, a California law which protects Officer Masso from investigation unlike ordinary citizens.

From the Red Scare of 1919-1920 to the McCarthy period of the 1950′s to the COINTELPRO (Counter Intelligence Program) era of the 1960′s, the Federal Bureau of Investigation has operated primarily as America’s political police. With the recent alegations that long time activist and former Black Panther member Richard Ioki was an FBI informant it is imperative that militants become familiar with the History of COINTELPRO.”

We are now meeting weekly. After the release of the (redacted) police report, the (whitewashed) DA’s report and its pronouncement that Masso was justified in gunning Alan down, and our press conference denouncing same, we will be planning further steps in our search for Justice 4 Alan Blueford. Come help us out!

We are in the early stages of organizing a large march for November 10th, 2012 with an emphasis on opposition to Racial Profiling, particularly Oakland’s de facto Stop & Frisk policy — which led directly to Alan’s death — and the repeal of the Police Officers’ Bill of Rights, a California law which protects Officer Masso from investigation unlike ordinary citizens.

Calling Out – Support Mothers and Children within the Movement @ 19th and Rashida Muhammad (a block away from Telegraph)
Oct 14 @ 8:00 pm – 9:00 pm

Please join us tomorrow Sunday at 1:00pm at:

19th and Rashida Muhammad (a block away from Telegraph)

if you’re interested in getting involved in this!

Calling Out – Support Mothers and Children within the Movement
At a recent Occupy Oakland General Assembly, we brought attention to the fact that there are several homeless mothers with children who’ve been involved in the movement and are currently struggling. As the OO anniversary rolls around, we’re hoping people can step up and support these mothers and their children.

Since there currently is no communal space for them, people can contribute time and resources, assist in organizing, and share this information with others who may have resources to contribute.

Most Immediate need:

  • Safe shelter (Do you know of any vacant shelter, or
  • an affordable apartment for rent?
  • Are you able to put a Mom and her child/ren up for a couple of nights?
  • Do you have other suggestions for housing resources?)

Other needs:

  • Diapers
  • Food
  • Transportation (for donations as well as helping Mom’s get from one safe place to another)
  • Baby Clothes

Over the next month we hope to organize an event to raise awareness about this issue, to ask for donations of goods or funds, and to organize an affinity or working group that can help build a sustainable commune where the needs of those who face the most challenging circumstances will be central.

If any Occupy Oakland Committee is interested in helping in this area and working together, please let us know!

We can be contacted at OOMothersAndChildren@gmail.com.
