I’m a vocalist, songwriter, and rhythm guitarist, and I’m in a vocal harmonies based band called ‘She Flies’. I’d love to network with other Oakland musicians and put together a little jam band project to support and entertain at Occupy events. I figure we could put together a set, maybe half an hour or an hour worth of covers to start out with, some of the socially conscious activist music from the 60’s, some stuff that’s more current… Wouldn’t be a high rehearsal commitment, I figure we could probably practice before GAs?
Not only is music a hugely important facet of any social movement, but as a child of Missionaries, I can tell you that Whoopi wasn’t wrong in Sister Act when she said “We need to get some butts in these seats!” If you get good music playing, it’s a lot easier to snag casual passers-by and indoctrinate… er… educate them 😉
Anyway, I’ve been down with a horrible mutant flu for like, a week and a half now. Hope to be back at the GA soon, maybe by Sunday. What do you guys think? Occupy Jam Band?
