Please join Occupy Oakland on Monday, March 26, 2012 to protest at a Mitt Romney fundraiser. Carpools are meeting at 19th and Telegraph in downtown Oakland at 3:45 PM, and leaving at 4:00 PM sharp. We really need drivers, so please help if you can. We will protest from 5:00-7:30 PM.
Republican kleptocrat Mitt “1%” Romney will join Meg Whitman for a fundraiser to fill his election coffers in the Bay Area. The $1,000-$5,000 per plate dinner will be hosted at the Hotel Sofitel, 223 Twin Dolphin Drive, Redwood City, CA. Romney will shmooze the SuperPACS and corporate fat cats, and we want to mobilize Occupy Oakland to show this radical 1% fringe that their time is up.
Pro-Choice groups, The Dreamers (a student immigrant movement), and other coalitions will be out there, but we want to make sure that the message isn’t just about Romney’s record or partisan politics. We want to highlight the nightmare of corporate personhood and the selling of our democracy to the top bidder.
But rather than just mix our message in with other protests being planned, a group of participants from across OWS is holding a fun rally to highlight Romney’s true masters. We’re holding a “1%ers for Romney (or Obama)” rally. Members of Occupy SF, Occupy Berkeley, Occupy Cal, and Occupy Bernal will be joining this protest as well.
We will have 200-300 Mr. 1% signs for protestors, but your own signs are always welcome too. We want to do more than just slam Romney for his political positions. We want to critique and protest a system in which a tool like Romney could be in the political position he’s in.
