I’m an attorney representing Ahimsa Govinda Windthunder, who was arrested in the mass roundup on 1/28. I NEED VIDEO OR WITNESSES TO ASSIST IN HIS DEFENSE! He is accused of throwing rocks at police, but he only threw harmless seed pods from a nearby tree. Anyone who has video shot between 3-4 p.m. on 1/28, around the Laney College/Convention Center area please respond and I will make arrangements to view/copy it from you. Unfortunately Mr. Windthunder is facing very serious charges that could easily land him in state prison based on cops’ testimony if we don’t have witnesses or video to counter them.

I was Govinda’s TA in a Creative Writing class in college- and Govinda is a poet, a gentle soul, & an incredible friend to anyone who needs one. More than anything, I hope justice is served and these inane charges against him are dropped.

To all the ignorant people prattling on below my post, namely capthugodasilva- if you like the sound of your own stupidity so much- go have a chat with a mirror, because this isn’t the place for that.

Well atty be sure to get video of cops throwing stuff, flash bang grenades, stun grenades, tear gas, rubber bullets, bean projectiles, etc. for abuse of the people exercising their fundamental 1st amend. rights. How can the cops demand respect and hide behind the statutes while abusing their bosses. Remind the bk robe that these Nazis took an oath to defend the Const. including the people’s 1st Amend.

This website was created in the fall of 2011. Most of it is now moribund, but the Occupy Oakland Calendar, which lists activist events in the East Bay (and occasionally elsewhere) is still maintained, the Search facility works to find earlier posts and keep OO’s history alive, and articles are occasionally still posted to the front page.

The Occupy Oakland General Assembly met in-person weekly (with a rare skip) since October 10th, 2011 up until the pandemic, at which point we went to bi-weekly Zoom meetings. We do checkins, go over the activist events of the past meeting interval, and have general discussions on politics and revolution.

For many years, until the pandemic, we put on a Feed the People event monthly at Oscar Grant Plaza, where all were welcome to come and partake of a freshly cooked, savory meal, before our GA.
