I had a question for the entire occupy Oakland. I truly support what you’re doing and the cause but why don’t all the occupy movements combine forces and camp out in Washington DC or Sacramento? What power does the city of Oakland contribute to the rest of the nation? I understand you guys are soldiers in the fight against greed and a corrupt system but you’re fighting the war in a location where no real troops are located. If the enemy is the government I would think Washington DC is the home base. Can anyone shed some light on this?
This message doesn’t only apply to Oakland. This applies the ENTIRE occupy movement.

Occupy DC is happening, and there will be a east coast wide convergence on DC in early December. So it is happening everywhere and it will flare up in different places where the 1% targets are convening. Nearly 10,000 people in Chicago disrupted and massed on the meeting of the American Bankers Association around the same time that OO was just starting it’s encampment.
I can’t officially answer for occupy but I have my own thoughts on this. It make sense for it to be local. Occupy meets daily and has GA’s every couple days. Most of us have school, work and family in or near Oakland. And when you think about it, as these occupations/Protest take place “ALL OVER THE WORLD” it sends a larger msg. that this frustration is happening “EVERYWHERE” not just in Oakland or Sacto. or NY. But when you see people coming out into the streets in every city, across the Nation, It can’t be ignored. Plus each occupation must build their own local movement to make first, local policy changes and than National changes.
I know I can’t afford to drive to Sac. all the time or fly to D.C. But I can show up as long as it’s local. I marched in solidarity with WI, here is S.F. last spring. All the cities that came out for WI, showed the entire Nation’s concern for the union busting that was taking place there. I’ve been waiting for people in my own neighborhood to come out into the streets for the last couple years 🙂 It makes sense to me and I really get it.
