During the 11/7 GA staff from the medical tent mentioned that they have been approached about matters ranging from provisioning to waste management, sanitation to prisoner support. They asked that committees be formed to address the various concerns that draw them away from their main purpose – providing 24/7 first aid and medical support.
However, it also came clear over the course of the GA that many of the committees that the medics were calling for already existed. So why have the medics been singled out to help with just about every task necessary to keep the commune going?
Perhaps it is because they are the only volunteers who have visibly identified themselves as such. Every “on duty” medic in the camp wears at least on medical cross in a visible location. Even if you have never seen one in camp before, their role is immediately apparent. And since they are the only members of the commune who are obviously volunteers, they become the obvious choice whenever someone has any question about the encampment or its operations.
So, while I could be wrong in my analysis, I would ask that the other committees which play a critical role in the commune infrastructure at least consider adopting visible insignia of their own.
