S.B. 1867 is an emergency for the life of this nation and a direct threat to Occupy

Categories: Open Mic, Reflections

Everybody must wake up immediately to this bill that is in the Senate right now.  The oligarchs have been building up a system for resistance against our movement; they have anticipated and feared our eventual emergence just as we have hoped and dreamed of it.  Now they are putting one of the last bricks in the wall firmly in place; research Senate Bill 1867, it is due to be voted on this week, that is why is say it is an EMERGENCY, in combination with recent threats against websites that post content the government asks them to take down (which is code for “images that show police oppression of dissent”), the U.S. Congress is trying to pass as much b.s. fascist legislation as they can get away with before we get our shit together.

So we need to form some kind of response to this, and like, immediately.  Under SB 1867, they will be able to label any American citizen as a “terrorist” and detain them indefinitely without any rights.  How do you like our odds in that scenario, Occupy Oakland?  There is already a Grand Jury in Chicago that is fucking up the lives of the people who are trying to organize divestiture against Israel.  Look at how they treated Bradley Manning, an American hero who did nothing other than blow the whistle on the war crimes of the U.S. government?  The 1% was truly exposed, the emperor has no clothes thanks to Bradley Manning, but most Americans don’t know what the rest of the world knows.  Occupy Oakland, I hope you guys all know what I know, and I think some of you know a great deal more than I do.  I hope you know the seriousness of what we’re up against.  I have never tried to hurt anybody since I was a kid on the playground.  But we are up against some people who are going to want to hurt us, and I’m not just talking about the OPD.  I’m talking about the DHS, and even that’s just the front-line.  They’ve been building this apparatus for years.  What do we have?  KPFA (which we fought for, thank you), a lot of guts and soul and history, and I think looking around the world we have the winds at our backs.

SB 1867 is a power grab by the same people who attacked us last week.  Are we for real, or are we really all that far off focus?

Carl Levin is trying to say that the rule has already been approved by the Supreme Court. If that’s true, why must it be passed by the U.S. Congress? Why was it drafted in secret by Levin and John McCain?

Rand Paul and Dianne Feinstein led a movement to ammend the appropriations bill and include our rights to due process — 15 Democrats betrayed their own people by walking away from the amendment and signing this atrocity into law. Our only hope now is that Obama will veto it, which he is apparently threatening to do on the grounds that it will somehow interfere with co-operation between law enforcement agencies.

This is a law so toxic and so dangerous that, as you say, it is in the best interests of the Tea Party and Occupy to join forces against it. Perhaps that will be the first battle in the true “people’s movement” that will dwarf Occupy and Tea Party and bring real change to this oligarchy.

This legislation is being Led by Sen. Carl Levin, the Michigan Democrat who chairs the Senate Armed Services Committee. He must be stopped. Call your legislature NOW! The TEA Party is against this also. The administration has been lying all along.
