Building barricades

Protesters in Iran are usually quite skilled at erecting barricades from garbage containers and trash. Spontaneous efforts at creating barricades are seen on every larger occasion. Though very admirable, this is an art that can be greatly perfected. Why Barricades?
Barricades are very effective in creating defense lines against oppresive forces. It will seriously hamper their view of the crowd. The barricade will also prevent the basij or police from directly charging into the crowd with vehicles. While burning barricades are better at blocking the direct view of the oppressive forces, it also closes the route for escape for ordinary people. Non-burning barricades can be run over.

What to make them from?
Tha answer is simple: everything! Flamable or not. Just pile things up, stones from the streets, basij motorcykles, buidling parts. Whatever can be added to create mass. A thosand hands will create a barricade in a minute or two. Strength in numbers.
A picture of how a effective may look. Note that people escape running over it, while security forces will avoid it due to risks in not moving in formation.

A long barricade is an effective barricade
Lenght and height is more important than width. While surely a strong symbol of public disobedience, small fires (as shown n the picture below) have no real function. They will not stop attacking forces, or blocking the view of oppresive forces. It is therefore a much better idea to create longer and higher pile. The sight of the pile will also have a very intimidating effect on enemy forces watching, further sapping their morale.

Downsides of barricades
Despite their great use, barricades have certain downsides. If too big, they may just as they prevent “security forces” from moving in prevent people from moving out. The conclusion is that the barricade should be no less than half a meter and no more than one meter high.
