On not speaking to Quan

Categories: Open Mic

From today’s Chron:

She has pleaded with protesters to try and talk to them. Two nights after the raid, the mayor was booed off the City Hall’s outdoor amphitheater as she tried to address their gathering. The following day, she had a news conference in which she stated nine times that she would like to directly talk to campers. “I tried to talk to the members of Occupy Oakland,” she said on Oct. 28. “I still want to talk to them. We stand ready to talk to them any time they’re prepared to do that.

My sense is that this will be the justification used for another crack-down or attempt to move the occupation — “We pleaded and begged to just talk with the protesters, but they refused us, so we had no choice.”

I work in an office and I can’t get to the GAs because I don’t get home until 8 pm, so I am not aware of what the decisions are on this issue, but my sense is that this could have an impact on the public perception of OO, the image that they won’t discuss anything and can’t listen to reason, which plays into the “spoiled dirty hippies” claims.

Someone needs to convey the OO’s reason for not speaking to Quan, or what she’s not saying or whatever.  I read all kinds of stuff online, watch the news, watch videos, and I have not seen what the OO side is so it’s likely the average public has not either.

That Chron is this over the top with this message is a red flag that it’s going to be used somehow to advance an agenda in the near future.
