Oakland Military academy on 39th street between Market and West street is expanding.
Thanks to millions of state dollars given to them by Governor Jerry Brown. Social programs for the elderly ie medicaid, In Home Support Services,Youth Programs, school closings, unprecedented state budget deficit, but Jerry Brown can find millions of dollars to fund his pet project the Oakland Military Academy. They have begun to break ground on this project on a vacant lot on 39th street. We need your bodies to stop the bull dozers, occupy the vacant lot on 39th street. Please respond to this post if you are willing to help stop this injustice.

Hey clever one. get your facts straight before you start making random claims. that school is filled with kids who live at the bottom half of the 99% so the entire project goes to the benefit of the next generation of the 99%. plus, where on earth did you get the idea that it came all from Jerry Brown? Did it ever occur to you that if Jerry Brown was fully funding them, maybe they’d be located at a larger, much nicer campus rather than such a small campus that used to be an elementary school?? Does it even make any sense to be shutting down the building of a facility that benefits the futures of this society regardless who funds it? Oh and this “pet project” of his has helped more youths both in and outside of Oakland more than you can imagine so please do some research and morality check before attempting make such false claims…it only makes people laugh. Here, you can start with this: Jerry Brown had no part in the actual funding of the building.
Please do a full research before saying something as ignorant as that. have you even been on the school’s website before or read any news articles about it? you make assumptions like a naive brat. To those who’s knowledge extends farther than yours, you only make them laugh. Please check out their website before assuming that the “military” in Oakland Military Institute means training Oakland’s youth to go out to war. That’s just ridiculous.
occupy oakland needs to really do some research and be judicious in how actions involving schools are launched. there are too many actions being made without any kind of forethought for families and kids who are in these schools that happen to be in the midst of an action.
It’s comments like this that makes one realize you’ll never have full support of your own city. What a naive thing to say.
The military should be nonexistant, money could be being spent on more pressing issues like homelessness and feeding people instead of ‘expanding’ a military school.
Hello. I am a long term sub working at OMI and I fully support Occupy Oakland. I have no idea why you would want to target a school that is doing a lot of good work in the community. I have spent hours educating my students about what is going on with Occupy Oakland and why this movement matters. I have given articles out to students to read and comment on and we have had great discussions about it. OMI closed its doors on NOV 2nd IN SUPPORT of Occupy Oakland. WE ARE NOT THE ENEMY! I and many dedicated others have worked hard to educate our students IN SUPPORT of OCCUPY OAKLAND. How do you think students’ perception of Occupy Oakland will change if you decide to interfere with the expansion of this school? What will the next generation think?
Many of the kids here are children of the 99%. I am not a huge fan of the military but the structure that is provided here is great for these students! Why would you interfere with that? If you want to go after Jerry Brown then find another way to target him. This will only hurt the students and I cannot imagine that is our goal.
In solidarity,
