We must Defund the Police

We are passing this on for your consideration. As we see it, the militarized police of our communities are waging an illegal war against our citizens. We must immediately take back our tax dollars that are supporting actions against us. and fire them all.The police supposedly have taken an oath to protect and serve the citizens of our communities. I would like to apologize to those at the general assembly who voted for the joint labor march and rally this Saturday if what I said helped convince you to support it. I was one of the two people who presented the proposal and was the main defender of it against certain criticisms. These criticisms were, in effect, that we would be joining with the union bureaucracy instead of the rank and file. There are many ways to consume both the raw and the mediated, but the raw is predicated on unknowing, or known unknowns, bound by a linear experience of space-time, and the mediated is predicated on understanding. I just want to remember… our struggle is not new… proper respect to the Veterans of U.S. Wars, and the Veterans of the movement who lead the way in D.C. in 1932 and on Alcatraz in 1969 and so many other “Occupy” movements than history has managed to bury. About OccupyOakland.org

This website was created in the fall of 2011. Most of it is now moribund, but the Occupy Oakland Calendar, which lists activist events in the East Bay (and occasionally elsewhere) is still maintained, the Search facility works to find earlier posts and keep OO’s history alive, and articles are occasionally still posted to the front page.

The Occupy Oakland General Assembly met in-person weekly (with a rare skip) since October 10th, 2011 up until the pandemic, at which point we went to bi-weekly Zoom meetings. We do checkins, go over the activist events of the past meeting interval, and have general discussions on politics and revolution.

For many years, until the pandemic, we put on a Feed the People event monthly at Oscar Grant Plaza, where all were welcome to come and partake of a freshly cooked, savory meal, before our GA.
