Our rights and our plans for Police enforcement of curfews

Categories: Open Mic

Hey y’all.  Four points:

1–Everyone would do well to have a plan for evacuation or other action before going to bed the night they read this.  If law enforcement decides to enforce the letter of the law, it could happen any time.  (By the way, I fully support real Peace Officers, our Union brothers and sisters who are serving because they want to make a career out of helping people and supporting justice.)

2–Since the National Lawyers Guild is already presenting on Knowing Our Rights at 5pm tomorrow (Sunday the 23rd), then maybe we should meet just prior to that, or just after that, to talk about how to stay safe if we are suddenly approached by police without a chance to casually “de-camp”.

2.5–It’s possible this meeting has already happened, but if the Website Crew can communicate whatever meetings are happening on this front, that would be great–that’s how I got down to the meeting on Saturday afternoon in my #99 ‘jersey’.

3–My other main suggestion:  A “Bankers’ Hours” rolling protest would work very well, maybe as well or better than a permanent big encampment, especially if we negotiate with the City Gov’t a small permanent encampment, maybe near the Big Oak Tree, where the Kitchen could continue serving food, and an information/organizational tent could remain functioning.  This would be the hub of a continuous effort of people to help other people and each other.  To the extent that the City doesn’t like it, they should be ashamed that they let it be possible for people to need food and shelter so badly.  But the main goals of building a just society through legitimate, functional government could be very effectively promoted with a rolling “Bankers’ Hours” demonstration of People’s Power, and the Plaza would become every bit a full, spirited protest center.

Great work everyone.  –Chris, #99
