Occupy Oakland on the Move October 22, 2011

Categories:

While other marches by autonomous groups within Occupy Oakland have been called, occupiers and supporters collectively held their first official action outside of Oscar Grant Plaza on October 22nd. The march was agreed upon by the Occupy Oakland General Assembly on October 19th. On a very warm and sunny day, hundreds listened to speakers and rallied in the plaza amphitheater before noon, then over one thousand people joined in the march from the plaza to the satellite occupation at Snow Park and around Lake Merritt, shutting down two bank branches on Lakeshore Avenue before returning to the plaza feeling tired and hot but also jubilant about the first Occupy Oakland action. The second arrest warning issued by the city of Oakland shortly before the march did not deter occupiers from carrying out the march as planned.
