Radical Mental Health Affinity/Co-counseling Group

Categories: Announcements

No doubt we’re all entirely focused on organizing for Wednesday, but, when you get a sec to think about it, I’d like to announce/organize the creation of a small radical mental health affinity/co-counseling group for Friday, November 4th at 6 PM.  Here’s a link: http://www.facebook.com/event.php?eid=263120703727065.

Icarus East Bay Kickoff Assembly: What’s Crazy?

“The only problem with seeing too much is that it makes you insane.” Phaedrus

Are we crazy? This is a rallying cry from Oakland to Berkeley and beyond for those who’ve ever been told they’re insane, or been given a diagnosis of bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, whatever.

Let’s fight to reclaim our stories and make new friends. Let’s start a group of radical mutual support and deconstruct what “mental illness” really means to us. Time to link up the intersectionality of oppressions like generational poverty, racism, homophobia, and the pathologization of expressing unique subjective experiences.

Occupy mental health.

Where we go will be determined by who we are as a group. So come. You’re not alone.

Note: Some of us take medication and benefit from it. Some of us have experienced trauma because of it. Whatever your take on psychiatry, this is a group with room enough for every story.

Are we crazy? Or is it just me? Let’s talk about it.
