Karibu! (Welcome!) We are inviting everyone out to Qilombo to participate in a day of festivities, mural painting, cleaning and gardening! This project will be part of several different phases to create Oakland’s first Afrika Town! Qilombo’s role in Afrika Town will be immense. We are in the process of upgrading the space: building onto our community garden, adding a lovely mural on the side of the building, and doing the first steps to putting in a kitchen. There will be a vigil at Amilcar’s shrine on Folsom, between 24th/25th, Saturday, March 7, at 6 pm. This is about the time his body will be sent back to Guatemala to be with his family. Please come with candles, flowers, and your intentions to ease him on his journey.
