URGENT: Our city is at a crossroads. We face a significant financial crisis, with projected annual budget deficits ranging from $115 million to nearly $130 million through fiscal year 2029-2030. A major contributor to this unsustainable financial model is the substantial cost of our current approach to public safety. Oakland Police Department (OPD) spending accounts for nearly 50% of the city’s general fund spending, with OPD’s overtime budget alone projected at $33.6 million for FY2025-26 and $38.2 million for FY2026-27.
