Join Longshore Workers to Shut Down the Fascists
Aug 26 @ 10:00 am
SATURDAY, AUGUST 26, 10 AM
Assemble on Scott St. in Marina Green
Racists Want Charlottesville Terror Here – It’s Up to Us to Stop It!
.
LONGSHORE WORKERS:
SHUT DOWN THE FASCISTS!
We, longshore workers, support the call to action for our union to take the lead for the working class, to stop a deadly threat to the rights and the lives of us all.
This weekend, fascist groups plan to stage rallies that threaten to repeat the racist terror of Charlottesville in the Bay Area. We’ve shut down the port against racism, war and police repression. Longshore workers have got the power, and we will not allow labor-hating white supremacists to bring their lynch mob terror here.
On Saturday, August 26 at 10AM, we will assemble on Scott St. in Marina Green (between Fort Mason and Crissy Field) and march to stop the fascist provocation at Crissy Field. We’re calling on all ILWU members, other unions and supporters to be there. Stop these racist killers from killing again. If not now, when? If not here, where? We have the power. Let’s use it!
On August 26, the fascist group that calls itself “Patriot Prayer” plans to hold a rally on Crissy Field. On August 27, several fascist groups plan a rally in Berkeley. What this means was shown in Portland on May 26: a Nazi who attended a “Patriot Prayer” rally the previous month killed two men for standing up against his racist threats to two young women. On June 4, members of 14 unions in Portland mobilized in the struggle to stop the fascists drawn by “Patriot Prayer.”
Charlottesville, Virginia on August 12 showed again that the fascists are not about “free speech.” The rally by Nazis, KKK and other white supremacists led directly to the murder of Heather Heyer and injuries to dozens of courageous anti-racist counter-protesters. Some of the same Nazis plan to come to the Bay Area this weekend. Meanwhile, Trump obscenely praises “good” fascists and “beautiful” statues of bloody Confederate slave masters.
And now the fascists want to bring their race-terror here? We say: Hell no! Who do these fascist creeps think they’re messing with? SF is a union town. Let’s bring out the whole Bay Area labor movement, with defenders of African American, Asian, Latino, gay, lesbian, women’s and immigrant rights, to stop the fascists
To do this, we must rely on our own power as workers – not phony “friend of labor” politicians of both bosses’ parties. Their pleas for Trump’s Department of the Interior to deny a permit for Crissy Field are a diversion. Any bans, especially in a port city, could be used against workers fighting for their rights. But as the Portland Painters said in a solidarity message, when we use our “power as workers to take action against the fascists on August 26th, that will be a call to action of workers and oppressed people throughout this country.”
Now’s the time to stand up for all that ILWU has fought for, as opponents of racism and oppression. We can’t let these racists and fascists keep on killing. Enough is enough. Let’s join together in unity and in strength to put our union resolution into action. On August 26,
DON’T WORK! SHUT THE PORT DOWN AND THE FASCISTS TOO!

Longshore Workers to Stop the Fascists

******************
Update: At the planning meeting on Aug. 22, union sisters and brothers highlighted the threat to African American and all union members posed by the hanging nooses and vile racist slurs that have repeatedly appeared at SSA terminal. Make no mistake: this racist filth is a threat of lynching. It’s exactly the kind of thing the Klan, Nazis and other fascist/racist terror groups use. We have to stop it with the power of our union. This is and must be closely connected to the mobilization this Saturday, Aug. 26 to stop the fascists.

REMEMBER: We are assembling SATURDAY, AUG. 26, 10 AM, on
SCOTT ST. IN MARINA GREEN BETWEEN FORT MASON & CRISSY FIELD.

RESIST – STRENGTH IN NUMBERS @ Crissy Field Beach
Aug 26 @ 11:00 am – 2:00 pm

Racism is evil. It must be eradicated from the face of the earth. We will not let facist, racist, morally bankrupt degenerates invade our beautiful city and spew hate. The time for passive tolerance is over. It’s time to stand our ground. Its time to stand up. Its time to come out of comfort zones and speak with one united voice — and send a message that hate has no safe space in San Francisco!

We are not advocating violence or physical conflicts. We are advocating participants — young, old, brave, bold; show up in force, create signs and disrupt the agenda of the unwelcome hate groups. One voice. One people. One love. United we will stand.

Stand Against Hate at Alamo Square Park @ Alamo Park
Aug 26 @ 11:00 am – 6:00 pm

**** IMPORTANT ACTION UPDATE, READ CAREFULLY ****

Today, we scared off the white supremacists and fascists from gathering at Crissy Field, only to announce they would relocate to the Alamo Square Park tomorrow at 2PM.

San Franciscans will not tolerate hate in our city, that’s why we are STILL organizing to end white supremacy tomorrow and rallying at 11AM at the corner of Steiner and Hayes.

Our goal is to shut down white supremacy and show the real power of San Francisco. We will also be vigilant of any attacks on the Black institutions of the Western Addition—particularly its churches—and stop them from marching on events in Civic Center, the Castro and the Mission.

Tomorrow, stay careful, stay courageous and organize with us to end white supremacy.

Sign for Bay Resistance on their website AND text RESIST to 41411 for important action alerts.

Strike and March in Oakland. Declare: America Needs Unions!
Sep 4 @ 8:30 am – 12:00 pm

This Labor Day, join #FightFor15 fast-food workers going on strike in over 300 cities along with community organizations and our neighbors to fight inequality and take to the streets to declare that America Needs Unions!

Unions are still the best way to fix economic and political systems rigged to benefit big corporations. Service sector jobs are the fastest growing jobs in the country, but they’re often low paying without benefits. In order to win fair pay, fair schedules, paid family leave, healthcare, and gender and racial equality we must win a union.

And not just in the U.S. At the same time, McDonald’s workers in the U.K. will be striking for the first time ever!
Join us Monday, September, 4, as we come together to demand justice in our economy!

DEFEND DACA! – Oakland @ Oscar Grant Plaza
Sep 9 @ 2:00 pm – 4:00 pm

*** NOTE: This will be a RADICAL space. ICE officers, police, deportation service members, etc. ARE NOT WELCOME. And folks who support them are not welcome either. We are planning on creating a safe and inclusive environment–anyone who supports or is apart of law enforcement or other deportation services will disrupt the space that we are aiming to create. Be cautious and defend those under attack at whatever means necessary. ***

Immigrants have been under attack within Amerikkka for decades, now–it’s nothing new. However, the Trump Administration has recently sent out and initiated threats on our undocumented siblings, and it’s time that we show them solidarity and fight back against the normalization of Trump’s cruelty and bigotry.

We must show up as a community in solidarity with those who are targeted by the threats on DACA made by Trump; and we must resist the hateful, misinformed actions that this administration is taking to further marginalize and oppress our fellow citizens. Ending DACA will affect over 11 million children—we must be prepared and ready to mobilize the SECOND one of their lives is under attack.

On Saturday, September 9th at 2PM in Oscar Grant Plaza, Oakland, we invite all undacamented folks, families and allies to join us in a rally and march to show love and support for #DACA. We must show those affected that we stand with them, and those making the decision that we’ve already made it for them. We are here to stay!

Please join us, this will be a peaceful demonstration centered around showing endless support and love for our community members who are under attack by this administration and ICE.

If you are able to help provide bottled water/granola bars, OR if you or someone you know would be fit to speak at the rally, please contact me at:

EVICTION RESISTANCE PARTY @ HERE/THERE on the Berkeley/Oakland border, across from Sweet Adeline bakery
Oct 24 @ 4:30 pm – Oct 25 @ 11:45 pm

You’re invited to an

EVICTION RESISTANCE PARTY

The evening of Tuesday, Oct. 24

through Wednesday morning,

as long as necessary.

The camping community HERE/THERE has been practicing consensus government and responsible urban camping at its present location for more than nine months. Multiple members of City Council have called us “a model community”. So why has “someone” in the city government told BART to get rid of us?

We were only given three days notice: they will seize our property and force us onto the street some time on Tuesday. This eviction order is illegal. Help us resist it by coming out to shout at the pigs and enjoying a potluck Eviction Resistance Party. Tuesday evening through Wednesday morning, as long as necessary. Also, you can contact Lateefah Simon, the BART board director for our district, through https://www.lateefahforbart.com/contact and Rebecca Saltzman, chair of the BART Board of Directors whose district represents many people in Berkeley and Oakland:

Bring a camera. This is also a good time to donate food, water, and any kind of survival equipment.

If they do manage to evict us, we’re going straight to City Hall, where we’re going to raise a hell of a ruckus. In that event, we will need help with transport and temporary storage of property. So maybe bring a pickup or a van, just in case?

Dear Anti Police-Terror Project members, supporters, friends and allies,

APTP Co-founder Cat Brooks’ birthday is November 10 and she is asking for just one thing – that we as a community raise $5,000 for the Anti Police-Terror Project. Let’s come together to make this happen in just 5 days!

The Anti Police-Terror Project began as a project of the ONYX Organizing Committee. We are a Black-led, multi-racial, intergenerational coalition that seeks to build a replicable and sustainable model to eradicate police terror in communities of color. Founding coalition members include the Black Power Network, Community Ready Corps, Workers World, and the Idriss Stelley Foundation.

This work is so needed at this time and APTP relies on community support in order to do the work. Please contribute whatever you can towards our goal of 5K IN 5 DAYS FOR CAT’S BIRTHDAY – then come celebrate with us at our follow up happy hour next week!

Action/Rally to #RepealCostaHawkins! Real Rent Control NOW @ SF City Hall (front steps)
Dec 5 @ 11:30 am – 1:00 pm

Action & Rally to #RepealCostaHawkins & Demand #RealRentControl NOW

Meet-up at 11:30am on the front steps of SF’s City Hall
(please be on time; group will be leaving around 11:45 to a nearby location (walkable from City Hall). Follow us on Twitter @stopsfevictions for location updates.)

Tenants are taking action to demand an end to the evictions and rent gouging that are destroying their health, livelihoods and futures. Join them in the fight to close the loopholes in our rent-control laws that leave them unprotected or that incentivize speculators to force out long-time tenants in order to jack up prices to luxury/market rates. Our seniors, families, workers, children, disabled folks and vulnerable residents can’t wait any longer while greedy speclator landlords profit off their displacement.

*Costa Hawkins is the main state law that incentivizes landlords to harass and push out long-time tenants to spike the rents to rates most of us can’t afford.

This law legalizes a landlord’s ability to raise rents on vacant units…that is, when someone moves out, the landlord can jack up the rent, and when a master tenant moves out, subtenants are left unprotected. It also restricts rent controlled units in SF to units that were built on or before 1979 and does not allow for rent control on single family homes or condos. We need to repeal Costa Hawkins NOW!

Cannabis entrepreneurs  capitalists bought the building currently occupied by an artists’ collective of 30 folks and intend to boot them and turn the building into a huge weed factory. Protect the Sacred: Divest Wells Fargo @ Wells Fargo SF
Feb 24 @ 10:00 am – 12:00 pm

Join Idle No More SF Bay and Indigenous Environmental Network at Wells Fargo headquarters in San Francisco to protest Wells Fargo’s crimes against Indigenous Peoples and the planet.  We’ll paint a giant image (details coming) while we sing, pray and demand that Wells Fargo divest from fossil fuels, fossil fuel infrastructure, and projects that threaten the sacred system of life and violate the rights of Indigenous Peoples to free, prior and informed consent.

We will also send a message that Wells Fargo’s grant of $50 million to Native American communities shows their fundamental hypocrisy.  It’s no more than an attempt to green wash their record as they recently agreed to extend $1.5 billion in credit to the Canadian oil corporation, TransCanada, to build the Keystone XL pipeline.  Protect Indigenous Sovereignty!  Protect Clean Water!  Climate Justice!

Wells Fargo finances corporations that violate Indigenous Sovereignty.

Wells Fargo finances pipelines which harm our water, air and soil.

Wells Fargo finances climate chaos & disruption.

Stop Urban Shield for Good!
Mar 8 all-day

March 8th Call-in & Email Supervisors

Stop Urban Shield for Good!

This is a pivotal moment in the Stop Urban Shield campaign. Get READY! This month we will mobilize to the Alameda County Board of Supervisors vote to defund Urban Shield and put an end to Sheriff Ahern’s racist policing program and weapons expo.

No money ($1.5 million), No Program.

On Tuesday, February 27th you and the Stop Urban Shield coalition helped the Alameda County Board of Supervisors understand and challenge a major report given to them by the Urban Shield Task Force. A report meant to help them decide on the continuation of Urban Shield. 3 of the 5 Supervisors (Keith Carson, Wilma Chan, and Richard Valle) actually challenged Sheriff Ahern on the impacts of militarized policing. They named racial profiling, trigger-happy cops, and called ICE terrorists in the wake of the Bay Area ICE Raids.

But, they’re scared by the Sheriff’s fear-driven campaign, and they aren’t swayed yet. We want to thank them for taking the threats to their communities seriously and for listening to their constituents. They need to know they aren’t alone in making a huge decision about emergency preparedness for their district. They need to know the people want life-affirming emergency preparedness, and that we’re with them.

Two Ways You Can Act:

1)      Email or Call Supervisors Carson, Chan and Valle (see email and phone script) by Monday, March 12th.

2)     Prepare to mobilize To   Alameda County Board of Supervisors, 1221 Oak Street, Oakland, CA.  The meeting can happen as early as next week so it is important to make calls and be on the lookout for action alerts.

This is an important moment. The Supervisors are expressing rising mistrust and anger with the Sheriff. Let’s use this moment to channel their anger into a REAL WIN. You’ve been with us a long time. Let’s STOP URBAN SHIELD.

Email & Phone Script – Please email or call the following Supervisors:

Keith Carson: phone: (510) 272-6695 or email: amy.shrago@acgov

Wilma Chan: phone: 510.272.6693 or email: jeanette.dong@acgov.org

Richard Valle: phone: 510.272.6692 or email: christopher.miley@acgov.org

Hi, my name is ____ and I am a member of the Stop Urban Shield Coalition.

[If you are a resident or worker in the Supervisors District, please name that as well. For example: I am a resident of Supervisor Chan’s district. Or Supervisor Carson represents me. I work in Supervisor Valle’s district.]

I am calling/emailing to thank Supervisor [fill in the their name] for their rigorous examination of the Urban Shield Task Force report and Sheriff Ahern’s role in sponsoring racist training programs for emergency responders. As a resident of Alameda County, I am encouraged to see Supervisor [fill in their name] and others taking the impact of militarized policing on our communities and their constituents seriously.

You work everyday for a safer Alameda County. You already know Sheriff Ahern’s connections with ICE and the recent ICE raids, his support of racial profiling, and Urban Shiled (the program that builds up all of this) do not keep our communities safer. I am asking you to defund Urban Shield when it comes up for vote this month, whether it’s Tuesday March 13th or later. You have a chance to stand for life-affirming emergency preparedness in our county, and I am with you. Thank you.

Surveillance Equipment Regulation Ordinance Vote @ Old Berkeley City Hall
Mar 13 @ 6:00 pm – 10:00 pm

Bring secret government surveillance out of the shadows. Tell the Berkeley City Council to vote yes!

Did you know that 50 percent of all American adults are in a face-recognition database? Are you aware that Stingray cellphone trackers can pinpoint your location within a matter of yards? Or that police departments collect sensitive location data about drivers that Immigration and Customs Enforcement is eager to exploit?

You can take action today to protect our diverse Bay Area community from unaccountable police surveillance. The Berkeley City Council is currently considering a crucial surveillance technology ordinance that would ensure transparency, accountability, and oversight of these technologies. Tell them to vote YES.

This ordinance comes at a crucial time. Right now, ICE is trying to access local databases as it escalates attacks on Bay Area neighborhoods.

With your help, Berkeley could be the first city in the Bay Area to adopt an ordinance that requires transparency for surveillance technologies. The people of Berkeley have the right to reject dangerous surveillance technologies before local law enforcement agencies can acquire them.

Law enforcement shouldn’t be able to acquire surveillance technology in secret, yet it happens every day. Our local elected leaders must be empowered to intervene.

The Berkeley City Council will be voting very soon on this ordinance. Similar legislation is under consideration by city councils in Oakland and Davis. The Bay Area is part of a nationwide movement to fight secret and discriminatory surveillance. Take action now to stand for community control of police surveillance.

Make sure the City Council votes YES on this ordinance.
