We will strike in opposition to the cuts of public education, university privatization, and the indebting of our generation. ***Because the cops took it upon themselves to destroy the altar at Occupied Oakland during their raid early Monday morning, we are asking participants to bring pictures (of loved ones or inspirational figures), flowers, and other offerings to construct a new altar that reflects our resistance and refusal to be silent in the face of state violence.

9:30am: ACCE & The Home Defender’s will be meeting @ Snow Park (20th & Harrison by the Lake) for a “Speak out on Foreclosures” to stop the sale of homes prior to the Holiday Season!
2pm: Causa Justa::Just Cause and Occupy the Hood will be rallying and marching from West Oakland BART to demand the Banks work with an Oakland Family to put them back in their home.
4pm: Occupy Oakland, ACCE and allies will be meeting @ Defremery Park on 16th & Adeline St. in West Oakland to support families who plan to Reclaim their Homes and fight back against the attack on working families across the country!
The national Occupy Our Homes campaign challenges a deliberate Wall Street strategy that has made billions for those at the top while devastating the 99%:
Banks created a housing bubble, deliberately designing predatory loans with balloon payments, variable rates, and other features that would yield short-term profits while preying on families least able to pay.
They knew that many of these loans could not be repaid, but they didn’t care because they planned to package and re-sell the mortgages to investors who then were left holding the bag.
The economy crashed as a result of this bank-created house of cards, putting tens of millions of Americans out of work. Unemployment is overwhelmingly the primary cause of foreclosures, not over-extended consumers.

This week, Safer Spaces will begin offering Trauma support groups for members of the community dealing with effects of police violence against the movement. These groups are being offered as a direct response to requests from the community for Trauma services, especially after the brutality this Saturday night.
The 1st group will be this Wednesday, 1/11 @ The Holdout, 2313 San Pablo Ave, Oakland.
As we are able to secure spaces, we will announce future dates. (If you have a space, let us know!) We are also available to talk one-on-one, just give us a call or send us an email and one of us can set up a time to get together. And as always, we want to hear what people need so let us know!

OOers at the vigil have been arrested for as little as standing nearby when the police decide to raid, all the way up to the ridiculous charge of lynching. People have been physically assaulted by those supposed to protect and serve, but only do so in the interests of the 1%.
With dozens of our comrades having been arrested in the past couple of weeks, and culminating in the city’s revocation of the vigil’s permit and the immediate threat of another police raid to clear the plaza, the time has come to rise up and let them know what we think of them and that we will no longer meekly accept their violations of our civil and human rights.
This event will be held weekly. Spread the word, send the invite, join us as we march in solidarity against police repression.

Wherever we may be, whether in our homes, in city squares, online, Occupies, or at work, we lift a beautiful message high above the political dialogue. We light the dream of a more equitable world in our hearts. We can overcome!

Vigils are being organized around the world — from California to Cairo, New York to New Orleans, Germany to Nova Scotia. Pete Seeger, K’naan, Ramy Essam, Sol Guy, Joan Baez, Steve Earle, Russell Simmons and many more have committed their support.
We gather to empower a great and global dream, a dream we have all dreamt of for thousands of years. We will sing, because freedom songs are the soul of the movement.. Together, we will make the dream a reality.

The intention is that this space will become the new home for Occupy Oakland, providing ample space for all of our committees and activities, room for assemblies, and sleeping space. (It must be added, however, for those who are concerned about it, that there was much support at the GA for retaining a presence at Oscar Grant Plaza, and even re-encamping at the plaza at a later date, projects which many in attendance at the GA did not think were in opposition to each other)
Starting sunday January 8th we will meet sundays at 1pm and wednesdays at 5pm. If needed the frequency of these meetings will be increased by the assembly.

Occupy Oakland has faced heavy police repression since its inception. From the first police raid on October 25th, when the camp was violently destroyed and people were brutally tear gassed and shot with rubber bullets, to the recent targeted snatchings and arrests of the last couple weeks, and finally to the attack on Occupy Oakland in its attempt to move into a vacant building which manifested itself in tear gas, rubber bullets, assault grenades and the mass arrest of up to 400 people last night, Oakland’s Police Department and City Government have made it clear that they will continue to target and repress those in Occupy Oakland in the attempt to squash the movement that challenges their exploitation, and oppression of the people of Oakland and the 99%. Often those arrested have had their charges dropped after spending several days in jail due to lack of evidence. The newest tactic being used by the state is stay away orders, given to those arrested, making it illegal for those arrested to be in the vicinity of Oscar Grant Plaza, essentially making it illegal to participate in future Occupy Oakland events. Many of these people have been around since the beginning of occupy and are key organizers for different committees and actions.
While many members of Occupy have come to support those arrested at arraignments, picked people up from jail when they were released, called local officials or marched in solidarity with those who have been repressed, Occupy Oakland has yet to have a chance to present our side of the facts in court. Feb 6th will be Occupy Oakland’s day for that. On this day, it will be the first time that lawyers working with Occupy will be able to argue against the repressive tactics used by the OPD and present evidence of unlawful activities and arrests.
We the Anti-Repression Committee of Occupy Oakland are proposing a Day of Action in solidarity with those that have been arrested and targeted by the local government and OPD. We will begin the day with Coffee Not Cops at the Wiley Manuel Courthouse starting at 9:00 AM, then at noon we will be organizing a rally at OGP with speakers that will address local and state police repression and the prison industrial complex. At 1:00 PM, we will march to the courthouse to stand in solidarity with those in court at 2:00 PM. Occupy Oakland endorses this action.
Additionally, in light of the massive amounts of arrests on Move-in Day, there will be a day of arraignments that come out of those arrests. We want to have a Day of Action Against Police Repression on the day of those arraignments as well. This day will be planned with a similar schedule as the Day of Action on February 6th.
We want all of Occupy Oakland to stand in solidarity with those who have been arrested and who have faced any form of police repression. Stand with us on February 6th!
