50% of those murdered by police are people with disabilities and we can reasonable guess that those who survive police terror and brutality are likely to live with some kind of impairment. Join us on Friday, September 8 as we protest police militarization of our communities by saying NO to Urban Shield, a regional effort that further weaponizes police departments to repress and criminalize our communities under the banner of “fighting terrorism” and “expanding emergency services.”

We will be joining hundreds of others at the Stop Urban Shield mobilization at the Alameda County Board of Supervisors. The event will be ASL interpreted, have chairs available, and have access volunteers on-site. We would like to have a large disability contingency (50+ people).

Are you available to join us? We will use this facebook event for planning a crip and elder contingent… maybe large posters, maybe a vigil, maybe our own another way of raising visibility of violence against folks with disabilities? After the event, the Stop Urban Shield coalition is hosting a community resource fair at the ampitheater near Lake Merritt one block away. There will be stations that introduce alternatives to calling the police, safety training, emergency response, herbal medicine and more. The stations will also be ASL interpreted and designed to include people with disabilities. There will be (free) food at the fair.

Please join us and invite your folks. We want disabled folks and elders in the streets saying no to police militarization and violence!!

In just the past week, Trump has furthered police militarization with the greenlighting of the 1033 program and expanded his attack on immigrants by announcing an end to the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA).
On the heels of these devastating policies coming from the federal government, Urban Shield will descend on the Bay Area this week, bringing police units from all over the country and world to conducted highly militarized trainings bent on further criminalizing and repressing our communities. But communities everywhere have sprung into action to declare that we will not sit quietly as militarization, racism, and xenophobia continue.

It’s time for us to stand strong against state violence and demand and end to Urban Shield! Will you join us?
As a SWAT training program that promotes militarization, Islamophobia, and repression, Urban Shield affects all of us. Black and Native communities are the most disproportionately impacted by the violence of policing and militarization. Immigrants end up in detention and deportation proceedings as a result of sweeps and SWAT raids. Arab and Muslim communities are portrayed as “terrorists” and face increased criminalization and surveillance. Working class people and all who resist this state violence are met with police repression. In order to defend ourselves from these attacks and ultimately win, we must band together and fight back in unity.

Immigrants have been under attack within Amerikkka for decades, now–it’s nothing new. However, the Trump Administration has recently sent out and initiated threats on our undocumented siblings, and it’s time that we show them solidarity and fight back against the normalization of Trump’s cruelty and bigotry.

We must show up as a community in solidarity with those who are targeted by the threats on DACA made by Trump; and we must resist the hateful, misinformed actions that this administration is taking to further marginalize and oppress our fellow citizens. Ending DACA will affect over 11 million children—we must be prepared and ready to mobilize the SECOND one of their lives is under attack.

On Saturday, September 9th at 2PM in Oscar Grant Plaza, Oakland, we invite all undacamented folks, families and allies to join us in a rally and march to show love and support for #DACA. We must show those affected that we stand with them, and those making the decision that we’ve already made it for them. We are here to stay!

Please join us, this will be a peaceful demonstration centered around showing endless support and love for our community members who are under attack by this administration and ICE.

To celebrate the release of the second edition of second zine “Ours,” our September Second Saturday Skillshare will explore the direct action tactic of occupying homes and other buildings in a public way. We will watch some footage of epic HnJ actions from years past and explore how this tactic might be used in a contemporary context.
